Dear members:
This is a wonderful forum, with a wealth of information.
I am planning to buy an iPad from USA and take it to India (chennai) for a short trip. Will this iPad work in Chennai? If not, what steps do I need to do here in order for it to work in Chennai?
Thanks in advance

Depends on what you mean by work. As far as power is concerned, most such devices are doing voltage and you should be able to connect it to an electrical outlet and charge it. You will need a small adapter to make your plug fit into Indian outlets. This adapter can be bought in the US for about $5-$10 or very cheaply in India for about Rs.20. Now if you're talking about the ability to connect to the Internet, it depends on whether your iPad is unlocked or locked. If it is unlocked, you can subscribe to and use an Indian service provider.

Thank you.
I meant in terms of Internet connectivity..
I googled this topic and found a very confusing answer.
Anyway, I probably won't bother taking iPad to India

Once I was planning to buy one. My understanding is that ipad for AT&T will work with service providers in Indla. ipad for Verizon will not work in India. I didn't buy one because a black ipad for AT&T was not available when I travelled to India.

I brought 2 iPad 2 when I returned to India. They work fine. It's wifi-only version and connects to Internet wherever there is wifi - no issues.
For 3G version, the AT&T GSM version comes unlocked by default - you can just buy micro-sim from any provider in India for Internet on the go. The Verizon CDMA version comes locked, and I haven't heard anyone who got this version to India an successfully unlocked it. Even if they did, not sure if it will work with any provider in India. My guess is it won't
