Does anyone uses Roku for Hindi channels? Are there any free hindi channels on Roku?
It looks like their cheapest device is now $49 with free shipping. We can use this to stream netflix, hulu, amazon and scores of other free channels. We can also install apps on it to stream media files (videos, photos and audio) from a hard drive to TV. If we have any free hindi channels too then it will make it a must-buy for me!!

What is your configuration? Do you need a set top box? How do you connect to TV? How much monthly payment ?

Roku connects to wireless router.
TV to Roku via HDMI cable.
Roku is one time purchase of equipment. It is a tiny box. You need one for each TV.
The channels are by subscription. You can go to the channel provider's site for their packages.

Do you know the bandwidth requirement ? I have only the basic DSL. I am able to watch Youtube on TV. So, I guess roku also should work fine.

I have cable and my DL speed varies around 4 Mbps. It is fine and haven't observed much buffering. Netflix works fine as well.

You need a set top box (like Roku) for Channel Live. The picture quality has improved over the years but not great. I recently moved to Dish (comcast pricing was getting ridiculous!) and the tamil channels are much better quality.

Roku has few free channels on Yupp TV but none of them is in Hindi. Cheapest package is $9.99 for a bunch of news channels like NDTV, Profit, Times Now and NewsX. If you want entertainment you need to go for other packages that has UTV Movies and Bindaas -
http://www.yupptv.comNetflix streaming works fine on 3Mbps DSL line but many Indian channels work ruk-ruk-ke on Roku. I suspect Indian channels do not have adequate server capacity or low bandwidth at their hosting location. I get frustrated when video freezes while watching Namitha's dance.
I am toying with the idea of moving to Dish Network as you can record programs and watch it at your convenience.
