Jeff Bezos overtook Bill Gates in net worth.
When Jeff Bezos was the POY of Time magazine in 1999 and then the dot com burst happened within 2 years, I had thought Amazon might be a one trick pony like several of the dot com companies. But they have really surprised me.
Do you think they will continue to succeed 10 years from now too?

Amazon succeeded mainly because of one reason: Continuing to innovate. Their success is the cloud space is unparalleled. In the book, Hit Refresh, Satya talks about how MS lost its position as the leader and started to trail because of the rapid innovation in companies like Amazon, Google and Apple. Amazon's acquisitions are very long term and strategic. The latest one being Whole Foods.
I'm still amazed at the adoption of Amazon Prime which has been gaining customers exponentially. 85M is no joke! Each of those spend about $1300/year. That in itself is an industry :)

Definitely, if they continue to innovate. Amazon logistics will be the next target for them, I would think!
With the market share they have, they can create new markets and new industries too.

As long as Jeff Bezos is active, they will innovate.
When was your first Amazon order? I checked out of curiosity and find that I did an order in May 1999.
I dropped Prime recently. Didn't benefit from it much. I always put enough in cart to get to free shipping level and am never in a hurry to get them in 2 days.

I think Amazon will revolutionize our lives with AI and automation. I believe what we are seeing is just a beginning of technological advancement and Amazon will be at the forefront of it going forward

I see Amazon in 2 phase - Pre 2009 and Post 2009.
Pre 2009 , it was still a loss making technology company that sold all kinds of stuff at a loss.
Amazon took off Post 2009 due to -
#1) Cost conscious buyers and
#2) Cloud computing.
I think Cloud computing has plateaued off . I dont know why Google is lagging here. I think in next few years , they ( Google,Azure) will jump ahead.
Next stop for Amazon should be in groceries. I spend $1000-1500 / month on groceries. This is my biggest expenditure category after mortgage. If he can cut it to $800 / month , I will take my business to him.

I am not sure how many people are aware that this Terminator maybe working towards a better purpose for humanity: "survival of humanity through eternity by colonizing universe" (Elon Musk may also be on similar mission)
