Psychics - A Big fraud business out there ?
[QUOTE]
My mum was a bit psychic and was really into all of that. She had premonitions mostly. Before she died we had a conversation and I promised that after she died I'd see a medium, in case she wanted to say something. It took me a few years to build up the courage, but one day by chance someone mentioned this woman that a was supposedly a good medium so I bit the bullet.
I consciously made sure beforehand when arranging the meeting that the medium could know nothing about me. I rang from a work phone to organise meeting, I only gave her my first name, I even parked my car down the street so she couldn't see my numberplate.
A lot of personal things came though the medium, things my mum knew about me. For example she said 'not to be afraid of flying as you'll be fine'. My mum knew I was terrified of flying.
But what floored me was when the medium said "Mary and Peggy say hello". Mary and Peggy are my dead grandmothers. Peggy's actual name was Margaret and so 'Peggy' wouldn't have shown up on any records, but Peggy was what everyone called her. I bawled my eyes out, was embarrassing, but I was just so shocked.
Another time the medium was saying that mum was excited and patting herself and saying 'grandmother, grandmother'. At the time neither myself or my brother or sister had children. Later that week my sister rang up and said "guess what?" and I said "you're pregnant?".
It's just one of the many mysteries we have to live with. I think that people that dismiss these things out of hand are just as bad as those that try to rationalise it. None of us has solved all the mysteries of existence yet, still a way to go. I think that once it is explained it could be quite prosaic, some weird space-time thing. Just have to live with the mystery. Which, I actually hate mysteries, I want to know all the secrets of life and the universe and everything.
While there are no doubt scammers around that use generalities and probabilities, what do you think the probability is for that lady pulling two names out of her arse and them being the name of my grandmothers? Don't bother rationalising it because you can't, it will just be words. I understand though, it's not been your experience. I don't pretend to have any answers and that is technically more correct than you scrambling to debunk it when you' don't really know.
If you wait for facts to validate every thought and decision, you'd never get out of bed in the morning. There are too many unknowns. We have spent generations studying many things without having an answer yet. Don't even understand what the true reality of what we're a part of is. And please don't say that physics has solved the mystery of our reality, the answers only go so far, so far. No doubt we'll get there eventually, if we don't destroy ourselves first. You can't surely pretend we know everything. what is your idea on the probability of intelligent alien lifeforms being out there aside from us? Most people see that belief as kooky as well, yet the sheer numbers suggest the stranger thing would be if there weren't.
I know you guys now will put me down, I've had too many discussions like this. You're hell bent on invalidating something neither you or I understand. It's pointless. It's like god, I don't believe in a god, but whether I believe or not is irrelevant, I can't prove or disprove it and I don't feel the need to debate it. You say that I was scammed but cant explain how she managed to scam my grandmothers names. So, neither of us can defend our position. Now how can he do cold reading ? Like read my grandmothers names in my face hair?
You can tell me this though please, if you want a conversation. If the universe supposedly represents all space, yet it's expanding. What is it expanding into? More space? In which case the universe doesn't represent all space. And, if the universe has an edge, what is on the other side of the edge. What is the nature of space in other words. Is it finite or infinite, and how can anything be either finite or infinite? Finite things have an edge, on the other side of which is...something. Infinite makes your head want to explode. Everything has to finish somewhere? Numbers are infinite, I get that, but space?
I've never had anything paranormal happen to me, but at the same time I've always felt that's it's a bit close minded to dismiss it entirely. – My brother said.
I think she was scammed! I would ask her.. did you record the meeting? So we could judge if the women did cold reading into you without you even noticing.
If she could do magic she would not work for small hourly payments using people who griefs pain and desperation to profit from!
( why not ask for the lottery numbers - if she can extract electrical impulses from non-firing decaying neurons from far away and across time she should surely be able to tell a few numbers right )
Paranormal things have been studied for many many decades and there has never been found any evidence in any serious study - not to mention that in has in fact been disproved by all studies about relativity!
We live in a universe where magic doesn't exist because magic cannot exist!
We can all pop some LSD and have paranormal experiences, but it's all in our mind - and scammers plays the statistics game to the susceptibles and make big money doing so.. ( pretty good odds 3 siblings will eventually have at least a single child, just as the odds of feeling insecure while flying is logical too - and by going and paying multiple times you have already made up your mind regarding believing in it and given the scanner a great deal of information you don't even notice giving away )
People who scam for a living are quite good at it - just like magicians or pickpockets or football players or poker players or salesmen - when you do something for 1000s of hours you develop skills.. and scammers use skills not unlike those police detectives use to get out information..
If you want to know you will study so that you do not have to live with doubt and "mysteries"..
Iron age superstition have been studied for centuries and at no point have there ever been found even a single shred of evidence - the mysteries of the universe is not found in fairy tales!
Are you friends with me, so far?
