Plan week trip to Canada..

Post by windycity »

I am planning trip from Chicago to Niagara falls and canada in August 2nd or 3rd week and need your help.

Visa is not an issue for me and I can spend upto a week. I notice that there are several places in canada montreal, ottawa, quebec city, ontario etc(apart from Niagara falls).

Any suggestion on how can I plan trip for one week? My initial plan is to drive from Chicago-Pittsburgh-Niagarafalls and from there Canada to Chicago on detroit route but I am flexible with route options.

Why would you drive that far to enter canada ? best route will be take i-94 east to detriot, using the bridge entry to canada, as for montreal and toronto in a week might be too much to see. Only from chicago to Toronto one way will take you around 10 hrs. Just to give you an idea. Toronto is worth visting. From toronto to niagara fall is only about 2 hrs away. Just get a feel of toronto will be enough for you, maybe you can plan another trip to quebec or montreal next time.

Even I plan to do the same with my family, including kids.

I was thinking of 2 nights stay in Niagra Falls, CA..and drive up to Toronto. On the way, there is a wild life sanctuary/safari. I do not remember the name. It is worth visiting the safari and then halt in Toronto for a 4 days.

Question is: What do I do in Toronto? CN Towers, then what?

MrLong,

IF your kids are below 8 years then its worth watching African Lion Safari . Also 4 days are too long to stay in Toronto. You can include Ottawa in your trip for 2 days and it will take only 5 h to drive from Toronto.

Major Attractions in Toronto: CN Tower, Ontario Place, Harbour Front, Swamy narayan Temple ( Incase if you didn't see in US)

Ottawa:

Parlament Hill

Canadian War Museum - good historical overview of 20th century warfare involving Canadians
http://www.warmuseum.ca

Currency Museum - history of money from around the world (free!)
http://www.bank-banque-canada.ca/museum

National Aviation Museum - see some of the last remnants of the Avro Arrow, as well as lots of other vintage planes
http://www.aviation.nmstc.ca

Canadian Museum of Nature - dinosaurs, bugs, etc.

& Across the river in Gatineau, Quebec:
Canadian Museum of Civilization - anthropology & culture

Dhindia,

Follow the web link provided in the post # 4. If you want to see the mountins, Alberta, BC and New Brunswick are the best places to visit.

Murari,

Thanks. I figured, I will stay in Niagara Falls, CA for 3 days.. Watch the IMAX, Falls, Parks, Bird Mountain, Whirlpool Jet boat etc.
On the way stop for one night in Hamilton, and see the African Lion Safari.
Then 4 days in Toronto..
But you are right, may be I should do 2 days in Toronto and move on to other places as you suggested.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'd say try to include Montreal. I liked Montreal a lot more than Toronto. Toronto had just another big city feel, but Montreal has a different feel compared to the other cities in North America.
