How affordable is travel with 2 kids. Travel is a priority for our small family of 3:) so far having one child has not hampered our lifestyle. We can still afford to go to all the places that we wish. But how many of you continue roaming the world with 2 little ones.

May sound a silly reason to hold back for a second child.

Why do you have to have a second child?

"Holding back" sounds too intimate a description for the subject of making babies!! :e If it helps, consider the airline policy which allows one carry-on per passenger. Go ahead and get yourself a second carry-on. Even if the travel-bugs is in the genes, you have airline help. Once toilet-trained and in good planning/control habits, they can be checked-in on their own. Stewardesses can take care of them on independent travel.

Is it just the travel expense you are worried about? How about music, swimming, math, wardrobe, mini van, bigger room, bigger house, college, etc, etc? On these lines, if one is planning on a second child, I would recommend not splurging on the first child. For fear of the guilt of discrimination, one will have to reach deep into the pocket to do the same for the second child :-)

Second child is most neglected, admitted by many parents of two kids but second one grows stronger and smarter. This is my observation.

Also those have a the first kid as girl child ,"tries" to have second child for no reason. Again my observation.

And why the difference in your opinion. I have been talking to a few grown up single kids. Boys don't seem to care that they do not have siblings. But the girls did not like being single kids and made sure to have more than one of their own.

IMO, second child will help a lot in having a good balance. Otherwise it may so happen that the parents might end up beeing too lenient to the only kid. And they might become too paranoid even for small issues. So having a second will help have a good balance. Also, by having a second child, the two children could be of great company to each other all through their lives.

During the Szechuan earthquake in China, when so many students were killed in their school buildings, I had watched crying mothers on Television. They were mostly in the late 30's to early 40's age group, traditionally understood as the risky age for a pregnancy/child. And they had been forced to have only one child under their national policy, and then many had themselves (or their husbands) sterilized. Heart wrenching scenes.

The reason why I wanted to have two kids is because I didn't want the kid to feel like an orphan after my wife and I passed away. I'm not sure if this feeling is true for all single kids but I've heard my relative echo this sentiment to me as he was a single child too.
Also, I'm very close to my brother and feel good to have him living nearby. I think living close by has also helped us eliminate our homesickness especially during festivals or other events.
IMO, siblings provide some much needed emotional bond to each other which even parents cannot provide.
