In spite of the fact that risks of harm is conceivable in any stroll of life, with this game (like any others) one goes for risks automatically.

This rule should be abolished and maybe no bouncers rule should be brought in.
Customarily, bouncers have been utilized to lessen the run rate and intimidate the batsman.

I can still remember the shock at Nari Contractor's injury (skull fracture) from a Griffith bouncer. That wicket was really a bouncer paradise and there were no restriction on bouncers those days. His international cricket ended that day.

WI had really bouncy wickets during those days. Bedi once declared to prevent his bowlers from getting battered by the WI pacers.

The hit on his head looked nasty. I think by falling on his face, he might have injured himself more.
There ought to be more cover on these helmets especially around the back of the neck. When the batsmen play the hook shots, they tend to turn their head exposing their uncovered portion at the back.

I really hope he recovers well.

During my college days, once a bouncer hit my left eye and for several hours, I couldn't even feel or realize whether my left eye was open or not. Luckily, no major injury. Intense pain went away after a good night's sleep.

Hilarious!. Quite true. I think that's why it was tough to get him and mohinder amarnath out sometimes. I used to remember them as 'blade' combo. not much runs on the increase and same with wickets.

Where is our neurosurgeon? What would a non-neurosurgeon do? I have read that it is a matter of opening a bit of skull to let the brain swell and wait till it resolves itself. Is that sort of what they might have done with Contractor?

I remember someone else also (probably Wadekar) declaring to protect his bowlers against Eng. And I think it was Bedi or Chandra who was being protected. Anyway, I tend to mix up things these days. So not sure of my recollection.

I do hope Hughes gets better. Recently during the Aus-Pak series in UAE, commentators were complaining about he being overlooked by Aus selectors although he shows a lot of promise. He is, BTW, the youngest batsman to score a century in each innings of a Test and I had watched that match.
