A very exciting display of power tennis going on between the young Russo-Canadian-Israeli Denis Shapovalov and the South African Brit Kyle Edmund.

Maria wins.
Caroline had objected to her being given the center court. Initially my reaction was that she is a draw and so it is justified. I was surprised to see many seats empty in the stands. (Seats in the stands?) Granted that it was midnight out there but if I was in the vicinity, I would have jumped at the chance.

Shapo is the first one on Ashe stadium today. Rooting for him.
My kid went to see Federer practice and was excited to see him close by : )
5 US women in the round of 16 in a long time. This used to be regular during Lindsay, Venus, Serena, Capriati days.
Added later: Shapo lost in straight sets in 3 tie breakers. I don't know why he played rather carelessly in each of the tie break. He had chance to come to QF and come to SF too but his inexperience showed in crucial moments.

What an amazing match between Del Potro and Theim. The irony was, the commentators of the RF vs Kolhlschrieber were talking about Del Po match more than the dry and boring Ashe match. The post match interview with RF also included this - LOL
2/6 of my older son's friends stayed back to finish the Del Po match. The other 4 RF fans, including my son, moved to Ashe. They obviously said, they enjoyed watching RF match.
For some reason, RF matches are boring this season. Watched him live on Saturday. Neither was the crowd thrilled and noisy. Very uncommon with New Yorkers. Hope the next match against Del Po will be more thrilling.

It is okay. I prefer this loss than the drubbing he would have received in SF. Fresh Nadal would have made it painful.
So on Sunday, it will be 16th slam for Mr. Nadal. Last year gap was 3, 17-14 and this year, gap will be same. 19-16.
Beginning, I really didn't pay attention to women much but now I am more interested to watch women's finals to see which American will win. My one kid is in NYC and was upset to come back tomorrow as she really wanted to see Venus/Sloane SF match in Ashe. I hope one of the young ones win. Enough of old blood : )

This US Open is different in another way. Or may be I have touched my feminine side.
I noticed that several female players are wearing a similar dress as if a uniform. One match both players were wearing the same dress. I always thought that it was a no-no.
Even men players. Some are wearing similar wide vertical striped tops. Some even with the same colours.
Does that happen every year or am I noticing it for the first time. Both wearing white used to go unnoticed but not this.
