One think I have noticed on naukri.com is that companies want at least 2 years of management experience and PMI certification for the managerial position. Hope it is not the same for all the companies.

^^ Well said. Its more value driven now then before and simple quantification of experience without associated qualification of value wont cut it anymore.
Value depends on business models of the target companies apart from the applicants experience. For e.g A long experience in customer facing roles will be more valuable to an IT services firm than to Captive organization.
Management experience in similar capacity is desirable for all senior management roles especially those involving direct P&L accountability or management of large teams. People however tend to define senior management in many and different ways. Roles offering 20-25 lacs package are considered senior management roles which is not the case. In India for most of the IT/Technology firms these would be middle unit management/Sr. Architect types of roles. Senior IBU/Division/product Management roles will easily pay up 40 Lacs onwards and Senior company management roles are 60 lacs+ range.
