Recession Effect - Backup Options for Job!

Hi All

Iam in IT working for 12 years in India+ USA
I am working for one of the Largest Financial Organisation.. which is sinking( atleast the share price) ..and every other day bad news about it.here and there..and Layoff..Project Cost freeze... ..Dont know when the fnal cord of the string breaks...Feeling pain all the time..:mad:.days are passing completed 2 months in 2009

Even I am not really confident that I will get into Job in 3-4 months if at all If I loose my current Job in Current Troubled Economy..
Even I in india the chances are less as every company is under hiring Freeze ..couple of friends in my network are already for looking Job since some time but no luck......so my feeling it may take atleast 1 Year for market rebound ( Just my 2 cents)....

I understand companies are sending out people ,asking employees to take Long term Leave if we are in Bench more than for one month...

I have seen this practice in India as well in USA since last 3 months in all the Top 10 IT companies

I have some savings in checking for next 8 months --rent + bill+payments....Luckily no mortage payments here in USA + OR India except some CC debt

Having worked in only IT field thru out my career , But I have no backup plan or PLAN B if I dont have IT Job for next one Year.

I wonder if any one else in the same boat ..thinking of PLANB / Back up plan If any ..

Gurus , please pour Ideas/Advise
