Manufacturing opportunities in India

I have been contemplating career opportunities in Manufacturing in India for sometime. The feedback I got from friends is unless you are in an MNC or an IT related company, the work culture sucks in Manufacturing. Most manufacturing companies and even automotive cos. are very traditional in approach and ethics and values. So, my friends suggest me to get into Project management and look for something in IT. After working for almost 8 years in the US, it is hard for me to shift careers but looking at the picture back home, it seems worthwhile if it ensures good work culture.
1. What is the career path for most R2Ier's in Manufacturing? Do they all target for MNC's? What if a company is India based like L&T, TVS, TATA, or Birla Group?
2. Does a PMP certification help in steering career towards IT and ultimately end in some ITES/BPO sector?
3. I am mostly preferring to settle down in HYD, but there is no manufacturing industries over there. I am willing to go to other metros like Bangalore or Pune. What are some of the target companies in India for me in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing etc?
Thanks.
