Hi,
I am looking for some opinion regarding Real Estate Sales Person License in NY.

Questions I have,
1. How many years it is valid?
2. How much it cost overall?
3. If I want to buy a house in NY, what are the advantages if any?
4. Can I work part time in RE agency? on weekends?
5. Can I buy house as RE Sales Person directly from 'Sales by Owner'?
6. Do you know if RE Sales person classes has any placements with RE agencies?
Just wanted know if someone already went thru this?
Please advice.
Thanks and Regards.

Bumping up the thread...
Just trying to see if anyone/or their spouse went through RE license.
Why I am doing this?
1. I missed the boat in RE in Mumbai.
2. Paying rent for last 9 years.
3. Not sure about R2I. Date is not fixed, might be in a loop :(
4. Atleast 3 yrs will be in US.
5. May or may not buy house in US. RE license approx $300..as I am not doing any constructive things on weekends..so thinking just go for it!
Please advice.
Thanks and Regards.

I don't have RE Sales licence, but was/am thinking about getting one, so inquired a bit. Below answers are no for NY, but my guess is that it would be in ballpark.
I hope someone with more knowledge will care to respond.

Questions I have,
1. How many years it is valid?
I dont know about NY, but it needs to be renewed everyyear where I live. There is some provision to keep it alive, but inactive for couple of years with little fees, if you know you are not going to use it for some time.
2. How much it cost overall?
Somewhere between $700 to $1000 including education and fees. You can expect to spend between $2k to $3k per year for different membership fees depending on what you want to do with that license.
3. If I want to buy a house in NY, what are the advantages if any?
In general, if you want to get a license to buy a single house, the time, effort and cost will not be worth it. You would be better off spending efforts on finding and negotiating with an agent to bring down his/her commision.
4. Can I work part time in RE agency? on weekends?
Sure.
5. Can I buy house as RE Sales Person directly from 'Sales by Owner'?
Sure. But to charge commision, you have to be associated with a broker, who would get his cut. One can become broker after 4-5 years of real experience. So you can find a broker and negotiate his cut.
6. Do you know if RE Sales person classes has any placements with RE agencies?
What you mean by placement? RE agents are not salaries people. They pay in terms of commision to get associated with a flag. So I don't know the answer, but in m y mind, placement should not be a problem at all.
Just wanted know if someone already went thru this?
Please advice.
