This is worrying for all parents who claim child benefits.

UK - Is our Data safe in the Government's hands ?
well, its 25million people on that database, they will have to pick and chose out of that huge number, I think ill be better off winning the national lottery where the odds are 14-1.
If you didnn't know listen to this US is collecting data of every person travelling on this earth checking in and out of airports, where you spend your credit card with which they build a pattern. I would assume they would run it against your ethnicity in the future and give you points if your eligible to enter US or UK. I think that is more scarier, than someone who has your address,d.o.b...etc etc. To live in todays world of fast lanes and internet banking one has to be smart anyway. We give away so much information about ourselves n forums like these, you think people can't track us?? and build a pattern of where we come from, what we do, what our background is etc etc... even easy to know where you surf from with a simple IP tracker based programme to know where your based ,your system etc etc.
They cannot do much with that data anyway, unless people are dumb to fall for phising sites , i mean they could target people living in the more prosperous parts of the nation and target those people with false mail and emails. Other than that i think its scare mongering. If Google map can show you your back yard from the sky, what can your address, dob,ec do more?
This is the new economics of the world we live in, it helps the nations prosper, by scaring us we spend more money its as simple as that. In this case we are being scared to keep our identity safe and buy a SHREDDER, as too many people fall prey to these false mails and phising sites. Wouldn't worry too much about 2 disks gone missing.

well, i think i just won the lottery, received a call out of the blue from a witheld number carrying out a survey if i had a mortgage on my property and wanted me to spare some of my time to participate answering a few questions. I have received several calls in the afternoon on similar grounds from someone sitting in India and i do have a brilliant banter with them and mock them.
This one was from the UK and much later in the evening, as the number was witheld and that is against the law if someone isn't aware btw. According to OFCOM no company calling you randomly can have a witheld number displayed.
Oh and btw every child under the age of 18 gets child benefit,so it means the entire family based populations records are out there, well, atleast i know now if i get scammed i can blame the government.
I think to avoid being scammed is to instruct everyone out there not to give out information to someone you don't know, goodluck.

he he he... its already on ebay. Obviously its a joke, but its a good one. I think I should post it in jokes thread.
[INDENT]Here we have two CD-R's for auction. They are not blank, but seem to have some sort of database written to them. I found them in my local courier firm's sorting office, addressed to
"Her Majesties Audit Office - Child Benefits Section" and marked
"Sensitive HM Government Information - DO NOT LOSE - ENSURE THESE DISKS DO NOT FALL INTO THE HANDS OF THE CRIMINAL FRATERNITY"
They were obviously surplus to requirements.
I haven't read the data myself. The database appears to have approximately 25 milion records in it, but is password protected, so it is impossible to read it and it's definitely impossible to extract any bank account data from it.
Any information that you might discover (should you be lucky enough to win the auction for these useful items and read the database thereon) must be kept in the strictest confidence.
0.99p start and no reserve, so grab yourself a bargain. All profit from these items will be donated to Sue Ryder Care.
Cash on collection ONLY please from Portsmouth PO8, since we wouldn't want these to get lost in the post!
PLEASE NOTE: Government departments should contact me by email before bidding, since they will have to be vetted for competence before entrusting such items to them.
