What are the benefits one is eligible by virtue of PR / UKC with respect to children in the UK? How and when one can claim those?
I know of child benefit which is a per month fixed amount paid by the HMRC. Are there any other things one is eligible for ? And how much is the benefit amount and how to claim those?

everything for kids under 18 is free(medical, schooling etc) even if parents aren't on benefits.
If the parents are on low income then the adjustment is done through tax credits received directly from the tax office and the child tax credits come from there too for parents on income support.
The system is a lil complex and takes a lil bit of research to understand it.

I think the cut off is£57k p.a ,but @ that figure families pay so much tax and N.I there is hardly any savings if you got a moderate mortgage going too.
The only benefit if you are working with a low combined income is the tax credit which is a partial re-imbursement of child care costs.
Not too familiar with those issues as i have not had a job and been in business and investments all my time in the UK.
My previous post was with people on low income and getting income support or housing benefit etc etc.... tax credits are a lil more complicated and all details can be found on this page.

If your employer participates in the child care voucher scheme you can get childcare vouchers for a certain percentage of your income. This much money is tax free. If you google for it or ask your HR dept they should be able to give you this info.
It is a good saving and accepted at most of the nurseries.

The maximum amount u can get child-care-vouchers for, is 243 GBP per month.
If both husband and wife are working then they can get 243*2 = 486 worth child care vouchers every month.
So its a saving of 486*(40%) = 194.4 GBP per month.

Fantoosh, yes that is the exact amount we get.
It is not lot as compared to childcare cost (average £800 - £1000 per month) however better than nothing.
Every bit helps :-)

Depends on your visa situation.
Some visa's forbid accessing government assistance.
Accessing this assistance may prevent getting of a PR later. Check before you access.
