Found this while browsing today. The Medical Council of India now provides online access to their database of all registered medical practitioners in India. This should be a good source for checking out your doctor's credentials. Here are the links:

To search by registration number: http://online.mciindia.org/imr//Index.aspx?qstr_level=06

NOTE: The search pages titled "Name", "Father/Husband Name", "Date of Birth" do not return any results. The links listed above seem to work fine.
