Hello Friends,

Wanted to warn you all about the Aakash Packing & Shipping Co.

I moved from Bangalore to Pune in the month of May'07 and had taken the
service of Aakash Packing & Shipping company. I also opted for insurance of
Rs. 1 Lkh for my household goods. Upon receving the stuff at Pune we
noticed that most of the furniture was broken/torn off so we complaind it
to them. They promised to send a person for the survey and provide the
compenstation or help with claiming the insurance. They did send a person
for survey who took the stock of the situation however they didn't send us
any insurance claim form neither they provided any help/compenstaion for my
broken stuff.
They had also taken out the brand new spare tire of my Indigo car and
replaced it with a torn one, when I complained it to the person who came to
delivery the vehicle he told me that I can raise it with the cutomer
service and they would take care of it. After multiple followups (through
phone, SMS & email) they agreed to pay me the compenstation for the tyre
(I've a proof of their acceptance) however I have yet to receive the check
from them (its been more than 6 months now). Now they have not been
responding to my emails/call anymore. I am sure they don't want to pay for
any of the damage and think that they can get away with it. I was dealing
with a guy named Anil Sharma who told me that he is the MD of the company
(cell # 9371236272, 020-25824127), he turned out to be the cheapest among
all the person I dealt with in that company.
More important than getting the compenstation from them, I want to ensure
that I reach out to people to tell them my story and warn them about this
company.

You can reach me on [email protected] if you need any additional info in this regard.
regard.
Thanks
Manoj

welcome to India, this is how business is done in India!! seriously it is very disgusting. Movers are sleazy people even in the US...

good that you posted this. You should post this in as many message boards other than this also as you possible can. I think there is a consumer court or small claims court that you can avail of as well. It will be a good idea to have a thread dedicated to moving within India, recommending good movers etc. Ideally I think it is best to get a company to handle it as they will have much more leverage, in case it is a move due to job.

OP, Wish I could be of help. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if there is anyting I can do to help with your current situation.:emsad:

Consumer courts are more of a joke in India. :emangry: I remember a few years back when I met with an attorney to get some help with a claim I wanted to file against Air-India. The attorney was good enough to bluntly drive the message that it was a waste of time, energy and money. Further, I was told that I had to be available through out the court proceedings and he was not sure how long that would be. There after, it was an easy decision for me to convince myself to enjoy my four week vacation than lose peace (piece would probably appropriate too) of mind.

Off late, none of the companies want to take responsibility for this trouble either. Most of the companies have a policy to compensate the employee up to a certain amount provided receipts were produced.:emcry:

Contrary to the previous posters experience, consumer courts are good. They usually settle within 1-3 months. If you have the evidence, its more often than not in favor of the consumer. You don't even need an attorney to file a case.

May be u can try news channels.
If u r lucky then they might help you in approaching consumer courts etc.

I remember seeing a weekly program on 'Star News' which was dedicated
to consumer issues.

I also agree that consumer courts are good. Few of my friends have managed to sue successfully

I guess we all have had experiences at some point or other of "professional" services of many businesses in India. Sadly, legal avenues in India are largely dysfunctional. I would suggest this- if you know anybody (even remotely such friend's/relative's/coworker's acquaintance) in influential government position or politics request him/her to call on your behalf to the packaging company and look into the matter. "xyz saab ka call aayaa thaa" counts more.

When choosing a mover - check following

A) Track record - how many years in service
B) Ask for references preferably corporate or company admin
C) Even if price is higher choose a quality mover

Hi

I am sorry that this happened to you. But it is an everyday happening in India.

Consumer courts are good in India. You dont need any attorney or lawyer for this. It is enough if you just have the receipts and have a valid case with you. You can go and file the complaint by yourself. They are usually fast and much better than other courts. You probably might have asked your lawyer for a regular court. If that is the case, i am with the lawyer - there is no use filing a case.

I had a very good experience with INTEREM. They gave me hassle free service both within India (Mumbai to Kolkata) and from US (to Mumbai). They completed even the customs clearance without me being present (I had to give them my passport though).
Even the light bulbs and other very fragile items were not damaged at all. All packing, unpacking, removal of garbage etc, even fitting the mirrors on the walls was done by them.
