HI ,

My parents are looking at buying a TV since theirs is not functioning properly. They had visited 3 showrooms and were overwhelmed with all the options available. So they asked me to suggest one. Since I've been away from India for so many years I have no idea and hence thought I'll get the help of people on this forum.

All they need is a TV with basic functionality. We are planning to r2i soon and one thing they want is for my kids to connect their DVD player and Wii .

What are the features they should look for and what brand? Also do they have to go with thin screen or do companies still manufacture old big tvs . The reason for this being that it has to withstand my 2 boys when they visit and I thought the big TV would be more durable.

ALso will all new TVS play both NTSC and PAL. Appreciate your time and inputs.

TVs bought in India are mostly multi-systems, i.e, support both NTSC and PAL. What you need to do is determine is the screen size and familiarity of brands. Samsung, sharp and sonys are good but are more expensive than other brands. LCDs and LEDs are in fashion, LEDs are thinner but very expensive.

I guess you are looking for a Tube TV and you are being pushed to buy a LCD..

Options :
Samsung 29' Flat screen tube TV for 15k rupees

Samsung 29 inch Slim fit flatscreen tube TV for 19k rupees

or 32 inch LCD TV Samsung/Sony for around 28k rupees.
