sandeepskar;291468if you do not care for the soldier who has the heart to leave behind his/her mother, father, spouse and children and die for the country if required, fine.
Most of them are working for a paycheck. Wake up for a reality check here. Once they enter military and stay there for long time, they might be little more patriotic towards army than average Joe. But so is a guy working for TCS, coding and helping company finish its projects.
Don't forget its average joe's taxes helping pay for their salary and buy/build weapons and splurge on luxuries. Obviously its politically more correct to appreciate them but if it was not for military jobs, lot of them would be living in poverty and hence they choose to serve military.

Talking of Barnes and Noble, I was there the other day, and OG came to mind....Oops, being more specific and politically correct, I was at a Barnes & Noble store the other day, and OG's posts in "Indian vs US elementary education" thread came to mind as I pondered on getting a gift card for $20 or $25 for kid's teacher...The $5 difference won't break my bank account, but if teach was not so great, it gives a perverse satisfaction in choosing the lesser amount.

Where have I said that their hearts are over-flowing with love for their country?? Show me a post where I have said that the Army-man is more patriotic than the TCS guy. They need not be at all...How does it matter?? Where did patriotism come into picture? Next time please ask instead of assuming.
My point is it takes courage to not chicken out of doing a job where you can potentially die even if you are paid money. If you are offered a million dollar salary, will you be ready to join the army in the knowledge that you can be called any day to fight on the battleground and die leaving behind your children to live their life without a father? It is just a job for a salary, correct? Then why don't people line up for military jobs because surely it pays more than sitting on the bench as a consultant looking for a project?
I appreciate a guy who has the courage to die for just a job and that job happens to be protecting a country and its people. No, I do not think working at TCS or even doing my job needs me to be ready to die. Most of us will run away the moment we hear that the company that we work for is under a terrorist threat - even though the company pays us money to come to the job.
So yes, I respect the military men and women more than an average worker and that includes myself.
PS: "splurge for luxuries"?? What luxuries? Did you not see how everyone in that thread was pointing out that there is not much money in the Navy/army careers?

Have you seen their recruitment tryouts? Huge playgrounds are filled up with people "ready to die for their country". If "don't get ready to die for their country" then "they will die of starvation".
[QUOTE]I appreciate a guy who has the courage to die for just a job and that job happens to be protecting a country and its people.Just go to one of these tryouts and see how many there are ready to die. You will find out the truth. Most of them are there for a paycheck.
[QUOTE]Most of us will run away the moment we hear that the company that we work for is under a terrorist threat - even though the company pays us money to come to the job. So whoever wants to serve their country has to die for it? Good receipe for population reduction.
[QUOTE]PS: "splurge for luxuries"?? What luxuries? Did you not see how everyone in that thread was pointing out that there is not much money in the Navy/army careers? Those everyone are not the ones working in army. Lot of people who are "ready to die for their country" end up stealing stuff from their canteens and sell it to people outside, for a profit. You can get lot of discounted products outside cantt area around 5pm, ranging from soaps to alchohol to home appliances etc. Army contracts are awarded when people "who are ready to die for their country" get their pockets full. All government facilities are used as if its their "baap ka bageecha". All vehicles, ranging from jeeps to helicopters, are used so that Mrs. Sharma can go for a picnic on Himalayan range.
And who is paying for corruption in army? That coward working at TCS.

If he ain't paying, there won't be any TCS to work for. So he better pay up even if he works for a dog house... :wink
