Is abacus similar to the kumon center in usa. Is it easy to open a center in india. will be moving to bangalore soon and hoping to start a business in future. I guess there is some training that we have to take, how long is the training period and what is the cost. How popular is brainobrain in bangalore. just exploring the business possibilities. thanks :emteeth:

My daughter was w/ Kumon in the US and my niece was w/ Abacus in BLR. My impression is that they are not similar. The former stresses on rote and the later on technique - I guess for lack of a better word...

Kumon has both reading and math, while abacus has only math. Kumon is supplement to school work. Your kid will be doing math in the same way taught at school, only faster and earlier than others. Abacus on the other hand is a totally different concept. The way you do your math using fingers (emulating abacus) is totally different from the conventional way math is done. I have seen kids very good at math the abacus way and cannot even subtract 2 numbers using the conventional way.
