I tried very long to search for any similar thread to post in there but could not get any and therefore a new thread.

What a disappointment ! It really hurts particularly for many Indian Americans who have worked day and night mobilizing support among Congressmen for this deal to go through.
Ofcourse it is the prerogative of the people of India to decide what is best for the country. But what is appalling and hurting is the way the Government threw the towel instead of facing a tough fight with the lefties. Many people will not have any problem if the scientific community of India decides it is not in the best interests of the country. What is hurtful is this is happening because communists (also called the employees of the people republic of China) say so.
This is the darkest time for India ..the country simply cannot stand when the opportunity presents itself. Its not just about the nuclear deal but what does it say about the future of the country. I dare not guess..

While it hurts pulling the plug at the last minute after so much effort (it is almost like Pakistan losing T20 cup on the last ball :)), does India has a Plan B in action to meet its energy needs? May be the people of India are not that serious about this deal as much as the Indian Americans are.
Why is such a sudden turn-around? In Dr.Singh's eyes, US is not a pre-eminent superpower anymore ? Or is it that US already asking for favors particularly w.r.t. Iran ? What is the Plan B btw ? Iran pipeline through Pakistan ? I can see India will be taken for a ride both by China and Pakistan. It will be kind of an energy blackmail after the nuclear blackmail.
Need BJP back in power desperately. Atleast they have some guts to do what they wanted to do. When they wanted to do nuke test they just did it. I am very glad that BJP will be one party that never seeks or gets Left support. It is a curse for the country to have leftists supporting a Govt.

Short term political 'survival' gains would have prompted a puppet like MMS to do this. It is just a matter of time before the next round of 'nuke talks' begin.

Having tasted blood by successfully twisting the arms of the Congress leaders, Left are not satisfied yet. They are going for the final kill.
They want this deal to be OFF. period. No ifs and buts.

For Congess, it was damned if you and damned if you don't. If Lefties have the control, India's downfall will be the way Russia went.

Can't believe that the communists can get away with a move that so blatantly caters to China's interest !!!
What happened to the election talk from Congress? What made them get cold feet? Isn't BJP in shambles and there is a very good chance of Cong returning retaining power?

Major embarassment for India internationally. MMS and his team are going to look like a joke, with their strong arm tactics to negotiate a deal in India's favor and now rescinding on it. Shame on a government that cannot fulfill basic needs of citizens and execute a deal that gives it great advantage in propelling the economy forward. I hope the people teach the commies a lesson in the next election. We need a Joseph McCarthy to take care of the situation (of course, I am kidding).

looking at it from a different point of view, what kind of safety measures did the govt. plan on during implementation?. Were they being audited by external agencies?. In a event of a disaster, who is the liable party? are these questions even answered?. if not, then may be it is good that it got sheved.

I think lot of midnight oil has been burnt on the technicals of the deal. Basically, all the nuclear reactors that will be used or built for civilian use will be under the India-specific IAEA safeguards arrangements. So presumably they will be under the state of the art safety procedures. They should be as safe as any other nuclear reactors in the world.
But the point is that leftists arguments are not about the technicals of this deal but about the ideology. They just do not want any part of US in India -- except their Chinese salary paid in US dollars :)
They act so-blatantly anti-India and they still get away with it and still get to sit in the Parliament building. This can happen only in India.
God save India !
What the hell media is doing now-a-days ? They find all the time in the world to get all the masala news but the issue as important as this one, they dont have any opinion. Why dont they create mass awareness, conduct surveys, bring out people's opinion and put immense pressure on the lefties ? Why dont they demand answers from Leftists "Are you really Indian, can you really call yourself Indian, Are'nt you ashamed to act against national interests all the time, can you guys point out one thing you and your ideology can help solve any of the country's problems, why dont you guys just look at your chinese bosses and atleast learn from them ?"

Lets keep left/commies politics aside for a minute.
If lot of midnight oil is burnt, then I have not seen a single article on the nuclear deal which discusses liability in case of a catastrophe, if there is a link to such an article, would be interested to see it.
Another thing that concerns me with the nuclear deal is that when advanced countries like USA are not investing in nuclear reactors these days, is it prudent for a third world country to be investing in them?. India is vulnerable to terrorism and nuclear reactors are a big target. Additionally, let us not forget the chenobyl meltdown, what are the checks and balances to ensure such a thing does not happen and if it happens, can it go after the concerned party for damages etc. My point is if all these details are not ironed out yet, may be we should be looking into wind power, increase hydro electric generation and invest the money spent on nuclear energy to figure out other green energy sources. Brazil has come up with innovative solutions to address their energy needs, cannot India come up with its own?
