I?m building a house in Chennai (ECR) and planning to have walk-in closets in the bedrooms. Has any of you built walk-in closets in your home in India. Can you please share your experience and if you feel ok pass some contacts for getting the same done here. This concept seems to be unknown to even architects out here!

Ask the architects to design an attached mandir with every bedroom. They will understand that. Use the mandir as a walk-in closet. :emsmilep:

Perhaps if you use the term ' Dressing Room', you may get a better response.

Pretty much every apartment we have seen in the last few months have pitched this as a feature. They call it "Walk-in wardrobe" -- try that phrasing on your architect(s).

Can you name a few? I would like to have a look how well they make it.
I have seen two, and there was lots of wasted space in one and severely cramped access in the other.

Mantri Espana, Purva (Riviera? Fountainsquare? I forget), Purva Parkridge, Chaitanya Samarpan/Smaran/Oakville... (mind you, I am talking about their model apartments or DVD walk-throughs in some cases)
The walk-in wardrobes are not quite like the ones "back home" :-) and mildly disappointing. They are more like wardrobes/cabinets installed in a dressing area that is connected to the bedroom that you can walk into...
