Thanks so much Old-Spice2 for the information, I plan to perform the testing by myself like how you have mentioned below. Have the home run on UPS (with all lights/fans off) then room by room I will test by switching them on to find which section is causing the short-circuit problem resulting in fuse blow off.

Yes indeed life is quite spicier here in India! So I got my weekend project to work on.... :)

Old-Spice2;4819062 KVA is good enough. Who is the manufacturer of the UPS? Call them and see if they can find the reason for fuse blow up.

Fuse can blow if you have any short circuit in the load - i.e. electrical socket, fittings or fans. Switch off all the load, switch off the mains power supply and let the house run on UPS. Turn on load one by one and see when the fuse blows. I am experiencing similar problem - during weekend I plugged in 110v cordless phone using 110/220 step down txformer and power strip (both bought from US). For some reason when I connected the power strip to transformer I got a pop sound, smell from power strip (APC make) and UPS fuse blew up.

Then I removed power strip and UPS is working fine. I also have fridge, water pump and washing machine connected to UPS. That is the next project - work with electrician to take it off UPS. See this is why life is never dull or lonely in India:)

Thanks MyRoots, well it also depends on how many rooms are there in an apartment/flat and also do they give back-up for TV/Fridge etc? In my case ours is a 4 bedroom duplex house with many lights inside and outside, and still I feel just for fans/lights 2KVA should be fine.
