I agree the city is such a tragedy, given that Blore people are the nicest and it once had the nicest weather.

Predictable way of blaming Bangalore Development Authority or someone else. The people were also the responsible party. So many of the old-timers just sold their single family homes for profit, knowing well that their lots would become high-story complexes. Not a tinge of worry about the future of the city. Their present lament seems like crocodile tears.

When state governments themselves act as real estate companies, who can we blame?
Andhra Pradesh Government actually gave a very liberal permission to construct G+4 floors in a 400 Sq Yard Plot, but people are not even satisfied with that, they put two additional penthouses on top with literally no space left around. There's no escape for rain water flooding roads and underground water is almost depleted.

Much of the blame needs to be placed on BDA... even with single family homes being converted to high-story complexes, the BDA should have preserved the water bodies not given permission to construct on every inch of land. I agree the residents have an obligation in things like keeping the city clean, but individuals cannot plan the development of a city. The poorly planned sudden increase in the amount of construction is mostly the failure of the development authority which is supposed to properly plan the city's growth. Instead BDA was busy taking bribes and granting permissions to build.
As far as I know, lot of old timers (especially the retired folk) sold their home and left the city as they couldn't take the craziness and fast pace of bangalore anymore... it is by no means a peaceful place to retire!!!!

SamSan;630069...., but individuals cannot plan the development of a city.
Individuals are making an already poor plan much worse by tweaking it further.

encroachment is out of hand. HSR layout was wetlands, dollars colony in jp nagar was a lake, sobha indraprastha (rajajinagar) is vrishabavathi catchment, bagmane tech park was kaggadaspura lake, manyata tech park was hebbal wetlands, hillocks with deer was bsk 6th stage.
i had read an article in DH about a systematic takeover of a lake bed. it is fascinating to read.
http://www.deccanherald.com/content/425936/illegal-takeover-lake-bed.htmlwe moved to bangalore when i was 5, and it felt like a hill station back then.

I thought hmda was the most corrupt and ill run. Well I am almost certain bbmc (Bangalore) is times more corrupt and badly run. With the exception of north Blore almost all parts which I used to envy as a child travelling to Blore are so run down and I'll kept. Chennai. is very squalid too.

The Bangalore I grew up in is almost gone and yes run down with more and more people. HMDA or BBMC is as corrupt as bribe rates for that area. Still I disagree that Bangalore will become "unlivable" in five years. Things will be become worse in old Bangalore. But new areas of Bangalore should be okay.
