Free time in India

How many folks feel there is more free time available in India. I think there is:
- Most can afford a maid to do the dishes and clean the house.
- Can have groceries delivered at home
- Take an Ola or Uber to work (or use the company bus) and get work done on the go. Can also get a wifi dongle if required.
- Can also get affordable cooking help if required.

Whereas if you're living in the US in a place like Silicon Valley with a long commute and I don't think you could afford an uber everyday, you won't have all the above luxuries. Now, even if some of the above luxuries are a bit expensive in India, I think the money saved as an NRI will help offset that. The reason I bring this up i that, having discretionary time to do my own stuff is important to me and one of the factors in a r2i decision.

If someone is living in silicon valley with family income less than 300k, they are better off moving to Texas or Carolinas or some other place with target family income of around 200k.

Best thing to do is rent near to work. One of my friend moved hear San Jose and he lives 10 mins from work, rent is around 2.5k.

I am in Houston, my commute has increased but still only 20 mins. I dont spend more than 9 hours at work, including eating out at lunch break of an hour.

I have started working 7-4, I am home by 4.30 and dont go to bed until 10. Too much time on my hand :)

I dont need a cook, I live walking distance to 10 different restaurants. Cooking is not a big deal if done as a family group activity and not as a chore.

Cleaning big utensils is a bit of a pain, consumes around 10 mins on the days we cook at home.

Rest is taken care by dishwasher, 15-20 mins, yup its a pain but better than depending on a maid to touch my utensils and quality of work depends on others. Every time they take off, which can be quite frequent people in India are crying since its an unplanned, piled up work they will have to do.

Washing clothes is the easiest task, 15-20 mins in the weekend, effortless.

Cleaning home is not that hard since they dont get dirty as in India.

On top of it depending totally on the maid. If for some reason the maid do not show up than hell will cut lose on them. I have personally experienced this when I was in India. How my wife was going crazy when ever the maid do not show up. And this happened very often.
