Any recos for air purifiers to take to India for asthma/ cough sufferers? Ozone generator is not being considered as it is suspected to irritate the throat.
Are they locally sold and of comparable quality?
Thanks!

Setonr2i, not sure which city you are setting your heart on ... if it's Blr, i suggest you resetyourthoughtson the city of r2i if not r2i itself. Alarming pollution of all kinds - air ,water noise (including dogs barking insanely throughout the day and night).. and it's everywhere and you can't get away from it. So, unless you fix an O2 tank on your backpack , plug in your noise cancelling headset and sit at home, there's no avoiding it ...
If you are still setonit, take a deep breath and dive in...
while I havent visited other cities, would be surprised if they are any different ...
only place you can get some clean air to breath is the countryside...but reaching there is another story sure to set you breathless
Not a very useful post, and doesn't give you the answer you are looking for, but wanted to nonetheless paint the true picture....imo, no purifier can make a true difference unless you are at home all the time... haven't seen anyone use it locally here.

Yes, we are moving to Bengaluru. I came up with 'EuroAir' purifier after much searching. Hoping it makes things a little easier.

Consumer Report has warned about any ionizing Air Purifiers. They release ozone which is harmful for breathing.

Then how does the dust settle down? I am not knowledgeable about these things, but i thought to get rid of dust-based air pollution, we need to somehow ionize air... i could be wrong though!

Search for consumer report ionize. I found one.

In one of the CR, they recommend hepa filters as the best one. I bought Whirlpool Whispure based upon that report in 2006 and so far it works great esp in apts where otherwise the smoke alarm goes off every time you fry something.

Did you read the Correction at the beginning of the article? Seems like ionic air purifiers don't release any ozone.
Correction: This article in its original form was inaccurate. The study involved two types of air purifiers, those commonly called ionic and those that employ a process called ozonolysis. Only those using ozonolysis were found to contribute to ozone levels that can in some cases exceed air quality standards. “Ionic air purifiers do emit ozone,” said lead researcher Sergey Nizkorodov, a chemistry professor the University of California, Irvine. But he added that “none of the ionic air purifiers produce enough ozone when they are used properly to exceed smog alerts.” The confusion was generated in part by a UC Irvine press release that did not clearly distinguish between these two types of machines. LiveScience regrets the error and any confusion it may have caused. The article has been revised.

Thx for pointing that out. Maybe its not a big issue any more.
There was a lawsuit between CR and Sharper Image and ultimately CR won. Later Sharper Image came out with Ozone Guard on its air purifiers. Did not follow the issue after that as I decided to buy the regular air purifier.

What are the air purifier brands in India and any recommendations?
I found one from Eureka -
EuroAir.
Feedback is appreciated.
How are they on maintenance - filter change/cleaning, UV Lamp etc., and how often?
