nineyearson;674643I haven't seen the Karnataka assembly election result 2018 in details.
The initial idea is that the result is quite different from the last election result. But also I think the result in Bangalore is almost the same as the previous one. The same set of candidates are chosen this time also.
Any comment on this?
Karnataka has six regions.
Old Mysuru - excluding Bengaluru
Bengaluru
Coast
Central Karnataka
North West (Mumbai KA)
North East (Hyd KA).
This map shows how the assembly elections have fared over the past decade.

As you can see, BJP did pretty much the same way as 2008 in 2018 in most parts. It did extremely well in the coast and central parts of the state. Right from the tip of Uttara Kannada district to Kodagu, it just swept. Even in the most unlikely places like Chitradurga, it got 5 out of 6.
BJP just stopped short of majority due to these -
Bengaluru city voter turn out was very poor. BJP lost 8 seats in Bengaluru area with less than 15,000 margin.
BJP lost these seats by this much margin:
Anekal 8627
Bytarayanapura 5671
Dasarahalli Less than 7000
Gandhinagar 10070
Hebbal Around 11,000
Hosakote 7597
Shivajinagar 15040
Vijayanagar 2775
These may seem not that close of a contest, but keep in mind. More than 35,00,000 registered voters didn't vote in Bengaluru :(
So under 70,000 votes, or just 2% of those who didn't vote, has put BJP in opposition for now.
Also, BJP could have done in the district with second highest assembly seats - Belagavi. It did better in 2008.
BJP's weakest spot is Old Mysuru area. The father-son party swept Mandya and many surrounding areas. So we are in a situation where a party with 17% seats won, has a Chief Minister, while a party that crossed 45% seats is sitting in opposition :(
I think the biggest loser for 2019 would be Congress. Mother and Son have prostrated in front of Father and son party. BJP has everything to gain in 2018, if it can create further base in the Old Mysuru area, and make the lazy people vote in Bengaluru. It is doing very well in the other four areas of the state. From here onwards, it is mostly advantage BJP, moderate advantage JDS and downhill journey for Congress.
