I don't know why I meet weird people at times.

Came across a gentleman in Pune during one of my morning runs. He happens to be a resident of the residential complex which I frequent during weekends. Friendly guy. Later another friendly lady, a fellow jogger mentioned that this gentleman is married but still looking. I asked how does she know. She said: he told her once and said not to talk to him much... Married but looking? What exactly is that term. Isn't divorce be easier? Btw the gentelman got no kids.

WHy do people decide to stay married if they are looking? Can two people be married but still be looking?

Thought it happened only in USA but I guess India is catching up fast!.

Its a lion thing, needs a pride.

Marriage is a system to box or cage a man's desires, hence the conflict.

Just looking should be jusht fine with both(married men and women) in RBee's sorry my book. It's after the 'jusht looking' that might bother institution of marriage :p

India catching up ? We are an ancient civilization; we had done it before any of these newbies. All they have is a T-shirt to show off...

Sure, they can be looking to get married again. They may want to do seamless transfer.

I think India caught up several years back ...

In 2006, I had completed about 13 yrs in the US and was a senior team lead in my organization. On one of our bigger projects, we hired about 15 new programmers and of course 13 of them were Indian and each of them had just a few years of experience, i.e really young, eager guys and gals ("kids"). Only one of the guys was married and his family was still in India. I was asked to train them and spent several weeks bringing them upto speed and got to know them very well ... or at least I thought.

A few weeks later, in a team meeting with my Manager, who is also an Indian and was my peer, a discussion came up about marriage, etc. and then one of these "kids" referred to the married guy as 'MBA'. I was surprised (since he had just arrived in the US a few months back) and so I asked him "you are studying for an MBA?". All the "kids" in the room broke out laughing. My manager and me looked at each other pretty confused ... then one of the new gals leaned over to me and said 'MBA = Married But Available'. I think I found the first gray hairs on my head that evening. :)

However, I will state that the "Mr. MBA", was a really decent and pious guy and I worked with him till I left the company. In fact he took over my position when I left. I guess that the existence of a concept of "Married But Available" was what really took me back.

I have heard of MBA (Married but Available) attributed to this.
In that sense most my friends are weird. They all seem happily married but their IM status says "Available".

OTOH I have seen young kids (teens like 15/16) in Facebook putting their status as 'married ' instead of 'single' along with 'Interested in men/women'. Go figure :) !! May be that's the 'irrational exuberance' the old Fed guy used to call !!

Marriage is unnatural.

The top most priority for mother nature is to keep the cycle of creation going and avoid extinction of a species. Man was created with the ability to plant the seed of creation and what best way to make sure that you have the most success? Plant as many seeds as you can! There'll be a lot of blanks/duds for sure. So, by planting as many you can mother nature makes sure that there is more chance of some bearing fruit

So, don't blame the man. The need to propagate the seed is built into him @ creation. Blame mother nature if you would like.

This picture probably explains the condition. He sure appears to be a gentleman looking :) I also see marriage in the picture, that's the part he is looking away from :)
