Turkey lunches might be an American tradition but gratitude is a universal feeling. I would like to invite our forum members to share with us the people in their lives whom they have been thankful to. Since recounting the wholelife might be lengthy , we can limit this to the past year. I will start off by listing people around my life I owe thanks to
1. My mother who has stayed with us during most part of the last year helping us with our little one. Sacrificing an active social life in India, spending long winter months with us expecting nothing in return .For filling her baggage limit with bound volumes of AmarChitra Katha, for having patience to read hours and hours of stories to a restless little one. To my father who has learned to live alone ,cook for himself and for having learning to comfort himself that grandchild is in the safe hands of grandmom and his discomfort is worth in the bigger picture.
2. To my wife who has been the lone warrior in daily life , for tolerating my long hours, pretending to believe me when I try to pass off my poor time management as workaholism.
3. To my senior colleagues who have helped me ease into my first job. For treating me as their equal despite them being luminaries in the field. For teaching me cleverly without ever letting me realize that I was being taught.
4.To my friends, whom I can still count on despite my disorganization that results in infrequent contact. Friends who forgive me with simple admonitions (" nuvve udyogam chestunnava ? memu udyogam chestunnamu"? (You are not the only one who is working, we are working too ), "Udyogam chestunnava leda vanavasam chestunnava?"( Are you working or actually in exile ?))

cheesy as this sounds I have to be thankful to the R2I forum, with a big project behind schedule taking up a lot of time and resources, R2i Club has been a great saathi at times when I was away from my family, this (r2i club) is never like a physical desi gathering there are more like minded individuals ( for me atleast) than the desi potlucks I used to go to.
family (wife kids and parents included), and friends thanks would be an understatement. of my whole life the last year involved the most incredulous planning, implementation, failing, restarting, and the end of it all with the flooring and false roofing made and machines ordered, I might see the end of the tunnel. I dont know if these folk thought I was hallucinating, but they dint show it outwardly, they never straitjacketed me and take me to a psych centre...for that I am forever thankful to them.

I am grateful to my graduate school advisor (my thesis/dissertation professor) for taking me under his tutelage. Whatever I know today is because of him.

I'm thankful to my family; parents, wife, daughter, brothers for continuing to provide that comfort zone where you can always slip in without any preparation or preplanning.
I'm also thankful to my awareness without which nothing is possible. That which you are not aware of does not, can not and will not exist for you.
Above all thanks to this creation which has given so much.

I am thankful to these four persons only in my life, when it comes 'to a great extent' !
1 & 2. My parents, who put an extreme effort to raise us,...... giving us the best treatment/facility they can, despite of us being the middle class family,
and especially how can I forget my mother who woke up with me for,..so many nights,.... for so many years,
just to take care of me, during those my very stressful exam days and hard study,..... for every need,....... from hot cup of tea,.. to hot water to bath,....... to preparing the hot food ready,...... whatever the kind I wished,........ and whenever, whether I did eat or not,.........at the right time during those time-less routines, of my study days.
3. My elder brother, who always remained as my friend, philosopher n', guide, a bodyguard and an impenetrable wall in each and every regard, for any bullet coming towards me.
4. My maternal uncle, who being well educated and also at a higher level/post at that time, served me as an ideal uncle ( that, how an uncle could be n' should be ! ) and filled those gaps wherever my father's capacity and reach, limitized. ( Man power n' Money power point of view. )
So to speak,...
My wife or kids can not even come closer to these guys by even 1%, and hence not worth mentioning.
Teachers, professors,....etc. I consider as professional,.... and not of those kind of real Guruji, of olden times in Ramayana and/or Mahabharata, and hence no weightage for them.
Friends come and go,..... and unlike marital relationship,... there is no bondage of any kind,... for increasing or decreasing relationships,....... and btw, they also have their own family,.. ( also wives and kids, may be later ) So,.. they come and go,......relations get faded,...... new relations builds up,........ old ones vanishes,...... and so on,.... hence, not that much significance or importance in one's life ( at least in my life ! )
For every session of 2-4 years, I had diff. set of fast friends,........ during my raise, till today ...... street friends,... then KG friends,... then school friends,..... HS friends,.....college friends,.. job friends,.... and that also changed every 3-5 years,.... and now net friends - an invisible collection !,.........and hence so many sets of friends,...... old ones vanished,.... and some of them even got completely erased from my life-dictionary, in the flow of time !
Hence, no permanent unforgettable impact from any friend, so to speak !
:)

Thank God for older brothers !
My younger one- - " I think this Q on the NSO has 2 right answers"
----------------------------
" OK, Now I get it ! Anna asked me to google the principle of Parsimony/simplicity. I see that by choosing the second( complicated) answer, I made a few assumptions, ignored a few principles of science, chose one to try to explain the Q"
" You did"?:emdgust:
"Yes. Thank God for older brothers!"
Yes. thank God for the Older child. What will a mother do without them.
:)HAPPY Thanksgiving Everybody!

I could write books on who all I am thankful in this journey of lifeincluding the seemingly simple Lorry Driver who refused to accept money after giving me a lift from Electronic City Bangalore to Hosur [After I missed my late night bus to Chennai and was stranded there with none of the cars even stopping leave alone giving a lift] I am thankful to this wonderful journey called life and this existence of mine due to the intelligence principle behind it whatever you may choose to call it God or Fate or Luck or Destiny which I has made sure that I come out of every experience that much wiser irrespective of whether the experience itself was positive or negative in a normal wordly material sense.
Regards
Venkat

Nice thread... I've been particularly thankful past few days, so thread is timely. Good thing OP is not handing out Oscars : ) for my thank-you list will take longer than 45 seconds : ) My incomplete list:
Dirt cheap international calling rates: Thankful to whoever or whatever causes this. Because of that, my mom feels free to talk for long when I call, and also calls me up herself. She calling me is a bit rare, but when it happens, she starts off with the reason for calling. It can be a happy one like "Guess what happened; I wanted to tell you this; I am so happy.." or a not-so-happy one like "I was feeling restless; My heart was feeling very disturbed; I was getting bad bad thoughts from yesterday", or a more neutral: "The maid servant is late so I have some time so I called you; I am waiting for washing machine to be done; I am waiting for watchman to get idli tiffin from Supriya Mess." : )
Family members who take care of our parents (mine and DH's): Especially the women. One on each side. They are like soldiers. Armed with a 'Just do it' attitude. Thanks to their efforts, many of us living with them, near them, or far away from them, are able to sleep peacefully.
Not to forget the usual suspects: My DH and my girl-friends. They continue to be my friend, philosopher, guide and in the case of DH, also a no-questions-asked-take-out-food-getter : )
In the forum:
I appreciate the frequent posters. Because of them, clicking on New Posts always results in posts to read. It is always good to read blogs and posts from like-minded and unlike-minded : ) folks. Especially when they sit in the Emirates Lounge, imbibe a little and type a lot. : ) Also very nice to see posts in various threads from a newer set of members, some of whom have started diaries too.
Very appreciative of the pictures and description of efforts posts in the "UniRelo-R2I Club Charity Drive" thread. For example: picture #5 in this
post, and the pictures in this
post, and this
post. It is not just the satisfaction those who donate get, or making a difference, it is also about children knowing hope, believing in the goodness of human beings... We grew up learning many useful and some not useful acronyms in social studies and for general knowledge tests, maybe the children in the pictures will learn what all the acronym R2I stands for : ) Thanks to Kiran and others for their unstinted efforts in this and related drives.
Last, but the most: To the doctors and medical professionals in forum who've fairly transformed the forum in the past year. I like to read the threads filled with medical and related info where they kindly share their knowledge. And Boca2blr, always asks follow-up questions of them so gently, so unobtrusively, in an almost Jeeves-like manner : ) that leads them to share more. Not only am I more knowledgeable after reading those threads, but am better able to read similar material elsewhere. And above all, it is very heartwarming and reassuring when they respond immediately with inputs, valuable second opinions, referrals, and pointers to other sources of help/info whenever any member or member's dear one has an urgent or regular medical problem.
Zindagi rocks. Life is good. As Vivekananda (the member) would say: Have fun. :)

Am thankful for all the adversity and each and every adversary – who collectively inspired me to pause, reflect, be less complacenct, learn, recharge, reinvent, focus, dig in, see more, appreciate better, forgive more, think broader and harder, understand more, grow more, and most of all – be more thankful.
