Indians have no sense of humor ---Why?

Recently I was talking to someone on phone. I didn?t know that person but just introduced myself via our common contact and started our conversation. To break an ice, I made few Jokes/witty comments and that person just did not get it at all! And stayed very serious/focus during our entire conversation, like you are reading a book. I have observed this time and again with Indian population. What?s wrong with us? Why lack of sense of humor among us? Why we have hard time in this area, especially when we are striking conversation to unknown person? In India if you try to make a fun, many times you will be beaten up by other guys.
Same time American and AA are very good at this. Other day I was watching some night show, and guy told Trump that can I mess up with your hair, and he did it. I doubt it Kapil sharma can do that to Modi. Why we are so serious all the time? If you are easy going guy/gal and have high level of sense of humor have you faced above situation, where person just don?t get it or get offended?
We have many members here with good sense of humor?Say PG-Dixit-Mn Op-Chkraan-DBSji-laks0 and few more? wondering what?s their experience.
Surprisingly I don?t see many women in general with good sense of humor and you can see very few women stand-up comedians? not sure why?

I noticed that on my last visit to a star bucks in Bangalore. I did not see the baristas smile, laugh or say thank you which I take for granted here. I believe laughter is a good indicator of happiness. Too much misery can take joy away from life.

They need to move away from Dukhbhari kahaanis.
Jokes aside :e [I hope ppl, especially the women folk can laugh at the above line]
&&&&.... becoming serious..
I laughed a lot when I saw the "Makkhi" scene in Namak Halal when I was a kid & now I cringe and wonder how & why I laughed at it. Plenty of Indian ppl have a sense of humor. It could be that the sensibilities & sensitivities can differ between ppl communicating for the laughter to continue. So, while it might be a joke for one it might not be for another.
We need some expert opinion from dixit & mn_op & OP(Lakshya)[Please read Lakshya's diaries for his excellent sense of humor], among others in my opinion are one of the funniest ppl I have come across.

Nope... no myth busted.
If des beats USA in someone's sense-of-humour poll, a poll in chinese language would have people of Wuhan* be the best in the whole world.
Humor is (world-view) contextual, personal, and situational. Cannot have a generalized view on that.
Woody Allen is liked in Europe, but detested in the USA.
Cleverly funny and irritatingly whiny -- depending on who comments.
*famous for being the hottest place for summer time, and coffins that hang on hillsides.
What could be more funny than to put your dead parent in a coffin and hang that on a hillside?

Speaking of Namak Halal, that is true in many cases. Recently I was watching chashme baddur and it was not fun like a watching first time. I think its like a listening a same joke where you know the outcome. Same time I remember few years back I was watching some lousy movie of SRK in theater (don’t know why?) and Satish Shah was trying hard to make some fun, I can hear laughter in theater on some nonsense and I just could not laugh! When I asked my wife why everyone is laughing and she replied by saying --because they have normal brain and you don’t.
Also wondering can we develop sense of humor like any other skill? Or you just inherit from your family genes….
In my personal experience I have seen very few Indians with sense of humor. Though in my family, we have many. And yes I have always seen Sardar with high level of intelligent sense of humor.

In addition to above male members(and add yourself, Man,DBN, RI to that list),we used to have many female members with excellent sense of humor. Sai,Jupiter,Maya1,Zindani,MV but many of them have stopped participating. Suma and RBee too have many light humored posts to their credit.
Okonomi's sense of humor is excellent too but leans towards dark humor that many of us don't get in first read.
So having a funny gene is not limited to one gender : )
Our sense of humor evolves over the years. After being in US for more than 2 decades, I tend to appreciate American sitcoms or political satires of Colbert/Fallon/Kimmel kinds or Comedy Central shows better than Kapil Sharma brand of humor but if you watch old Kannada/Tamil/Hindi movies, there used to be excellent comedians and it used to be 'tiLi hasya' (pure form of humor) than 'apa hasya' (vulgar type of comedy).Utpal Mukharjee kinds.

:thup:Yes, normal routine should not be dukhbhari kahaanis.. I should have added tongue-in-cheek emoticon at my OP as I definitely meant in lighter vein than the direction thread took :)
