Best US city to live

Hi,

We live in Bayarea and because of the higher cost of living we are planning to relocate to other cities. Can you please suggest some good cities to move. As our company allows us to work from home. Its ok for us to relocate anywhere in USA.

Basic criteria are we are looking at:

1. Good School districts
2. Good amount of Indian population so that my kids can make friends with them in schools and access to learn Indian classical music and dance
3. No Snow/minimum snow
4. Low home prices
5. Less sales and state taxes

Given your criteria, my top picks would be:

1. RTP area
2. Washington DC metro area
3. Atlanta

Home prices in these places are definitely lower than bay area and yet these areas offer good job opportunities and competitive salaries.

5. Phoenix

Both meet the criteria of decent weather and cheaper housing options, along with good number of Indian population.

In additional tidbit news, the Dallas area metro system is nicknamed DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit)

The Fort worth Area Rapid Transit is also coming up with a nickname along similar lines.

Substitute Atlanta with Alpharetta. Atlanta prices almost doubled in last few boom years. Might be quite expensive with condos in 500 range. Plus hardly any desis inside Atlanta and most of them them trying hard to get into Alpharetta ( N Fulton county)

Alpharetta city is just on the outskirts of Atlanta. Part of it falls under North Fulton county and part of it in Forsyth. N Fulton Alpharetta public schools ( Elementary, middle, High) are one of the best schools in the nation. Home prices appreciated here too but not like FL, CA. So, in the bear market very little risk of prices going down. Plus any subdivision u go to in N Fulton Alpharetta , you feel find atleast a dozen desis, making u feel as if GORAS/ KALLUS are in India. They have a BAL VIHAR school too here in alpharetta. Bal vihar is like hindu cultural school. Every sunday morning most of the desis meet here for teaching kids about Ramayana, hindu festivals, Hindi classes , prayers , shlokas etc. For parents they have YOGA classes. If it ever snows here, they declare holiday. Last time I remember snow here was in 2001.
