Problems with Reliance India Call?

Has anybody experienced these problems:
- Takes multiple attempts before the call is connected (to a landline in India)
- I never hear the phone ringing before they pick up the phone (tried several numbers in different cities ... all have the same problem). This isn't a big deal, but is disconcerting.
And ... any suggestions re: alternatives options for calling India?

Yes I get this problem very often and it's there for the past few months. Also sometimes there is a very feeble hissing noise and a slight lag accompanied with it.

Reliance was reliable for a long time and their rate was around 11 cents. Now, they are slashing rates and quality has come down. I think they are forced by the competition.

I have just subscribed to the vonage unlimited calling plan to India. Works out pretty nice. $15 for 6 months and $25 for the next 6 months.

Agree. Vonage is good. And the call forward feature allows one to call India from anywhere in U.S from your cellphone

It is not "$15 for 6 months and $25 for the next 6 months". It is $15/mo for 6 months and $25/mo for the next 6 months ($240/yr for the 1st yr and $300/yr for subsequent yrs)

Do they require 1 year contract or something? Any install charges?
