Here is my situation:

I got a job with a major consulting company and will be travelling Monday to Thursday mostly in east / central US. I have a kid who is going to school. I have no relatives in US and have no plans to buy a house. I'm looking R2I in next three years.

I would like to settle down in a city which can satisfy most of the following criteria:
- Easy commute to airport and travel to east/central US.
- Good schools
- Decent Indian community
- Nice weather
- Nice apartments to rent

I have following cities in my mind.
- Charlotte (Lived long time back. Airport with direct flights to most of the major cities in US)
- Raleigh (RTP area) (Again similar to Charlotte..Not sure about direct flights to major cities in US)
- Atlanta (Big city with lot of desis...direct access to major US cities...long commute to airport)
- Nashville (No idea)
- Dallas ( Heard lot of good things?.lots of desis.. direct access to major US cities?summer is really hot.)
- Any other cities?.(Florida / Virginia)

Any thoughts from previous experience or from friends is highly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance.

Seems like you are mostly inclined towards southern cities, may be because of weather..But if you can bear the winter, Chicago is a good option ..(good number of desi folks, lots of Indians and very good apartments in the suburbs and an airport hub)..Advantage could be that you can land up in a client in Chicago itself..just a thought..

There is no nice weather in Eastern US. You have to live in California for that. Everywhere else, you have the threat of snow, high winds, severe thunderstorms, tornadoes and hurricanes.

I'd rank Atlanta and Dallas
Dallas is cheaper,IMO

Florida doesnt have good schools nor the location.Flying in and out FL will be a pain

A friend of mine had to take a call on this similarly..for buying a house.

His is a travelling job(Mon-Thursday)..after evaluating he chose Phoenix..When the discussion came up,I was for Dallas :)
