One of my friends is relocating to the Boston area (Metro West area). Does anyone have recommendations on good apartment/townhome communities, in this area? Especially from the perspective of good schools, indian community, safety, etc
He has a 4 yr old kid -- so, would prefer communities that are kid friendly.
Ideally, he would like to be closer to I-495.
Any recommendations/comments highly appreciated. TIA

Hi smariner,
Following towns are good for living
1) Acton - Access to 495 thru Exit 31 or Exit 29, best schools in boston area, good size indian
community, very safe. 1 or 2 apt complex, mostly condo complexes which have units for rent.
2) Boxborough - On 495, good schools, condo complexes
3) Marlborough - Ok schools, Royal crest estates is a fine apt complex.
4) Shrewsbury - Good apt complexes with decent size indian community.
Where would he be working?
I have been living in Boston area for past 13 yrs, hence if u need more info let me know.

Good suggestions above (Acton/Boxborough/Marlborough/Westborough/Shrewsbury). Would also add Andover/Chelmsford to the list with affordable apartment complexes and good schools.
Another option (slightly cheaper in terms of real-estate price or rent) is to live in nearby towns in NH - especially Nashua which has a very big indian community and is in drivable distance away from some of I-495 job hubs. This option is especially good if you are looking to buy a house in the near future - home values are cheaper than most of MA towns with schools that are on par (atleast in the elementary level). In the mid-to-late 90's - during the real-estate boom - there is a large influx of indian/asian families into Nashua and other nearby NH towns which seems to have some good effect on the schools.

If you are interested in locating to Natick/Framingham area, I will suggest you to look for apartment community near west Natick train station. PM me and I'll be able to suggest you some apartment complex where I lived so that you can contact them..
