I was watching a TV news item showing a student, with a radio tag to his right leg. Whatever may be the case of this sham Tri-Valley university, United States is too good a place to put GPS tracking RFID tags on humans' legs.. that too those who are not technically criminals (yet).

Indian students in US radio tagged; angry govt says remove it

We should strongly condemn this shameful incident in Pleasanton, California.

If someone is having legal residence issues, just deport them. Don't treat them like animals..

While this action by USCIS has to be condemned strongly, the students who are subject to such treatment share the blame as well. Why the heck would they want to remain in US when they are treated like animals?

I'm sure USCIS would've given them the option to either leave or wear tracking device on their ankles. Some of them might have opted to choose the latter.

Why are they so desperate to remain here when India is no Somalia to go back and face a bleak future?

Puzzled...

As to whether they were conned or not is debatable but a related issue.

If someone is in the country illegally whether they were conned or not is immaterial, then they are illegals. parolees and many others who have restrictions are often tagged with ankle monitors. It is a much better alternative than confining them to jail.

As to deporting them, that would be wrong till proper process is gone thru, till that time detention is necessary and ankle monitoring is far superior to detention.

Paris hilton, Lindsay Lohan are not animals, they have been ankle monitored.

Let us not have a knee jerk reaction and and bash US anytime on anything. If we want to bash something let us bash the third degree methods and police brutality that is often the norm in many countries.

From that link:
[QUOTE]But US officials say some of the students obtained their visa fraudulently and others are in violation of their visa and immigration status. Such students have been have been placed under ISAP (Intense Supervision and Appearance Program) by ICE and put in removal proceedings, necessitating radio tagging. Not all students have been tagged.
I am not familiar with the details of the ISAP, but by its very name itself, it seems like some form of RFID or GPS tracking would be necessary.

If the outrage is because the students are 'technically not criminals (yet)' but being tagged, then the reason in quote above might address why such tagging was necessary.

What do you mean by 'don't treat them like animals'? Has the RFID device been implanted in the students like how a microchip is implanted in animals?

[QUOTE]A microchip implant is an identifying integrated circuit placed under the skin of a dog, cat, horse, or other animal. The chips are about the size of a large grain of rice and are based on a passive RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology.

The use of externally attached microchip devices such as RFID ear tags (piercings rather than implants) is another, related method commonly used for identifying farm and ranch animals other than horses. In some cases the external microchips may be readable on the same scanner as the implanted style.
I doubt they were treated like animals. Most probably the students are being required to wear a device similar to the ankle monitor Martha Stewart had to wear when she was under house arrest after her release from prison.

Why is police detention of suspected illegals (this is not even a police detention) to be condemned? Should they have put cow urine or bacon grease on them and then deport them?

hope4best;364743 Why are they so desperate to remain here when India is no Somalia to go back and face a bleak future?

India has 1.185 billion people. Even if 1% want to look for 'better' opportunity outside India, that's a staggering 11.9 million people. Many of us left the shores in search of better prospects, and let's not belittle these students' American dreams.

Desi;364744 As to deporting them, that would be wrong till proper process is gone thru, till that time detention is necessary and ankle monitoring is far superior to detention.

I will take your word for that. But interviewing and deporting on fast track may be a better option. The tagged students were already interviewed.

Desi;364744 Paris hilton, Lindsay Lohan are not animals, they have been ankle monitored.

Comparing to celebrities who have huge legal muscle for at least first level of defense is not going to work here. These guys are FoBs who know almost nothing about Unites States. I heard the interview of one of the tagged student on Headlines Today channel and it was not at all pleasant.

Desi;364744 Let us not have a knee jerk reaction and and bash US anytime on anything. If we want to bash something let us bash the third degree methods and police brutality that is often the norm in many countries.

This is neither a knee jerk reaction, nor 'anytime on anything' applies at least to me. I am proud of many things about US and India as well. I usually don't resort to bashing unless the situation warrants, like this one.

Police brutality in 'many' countries has nothing to do with radio tagging Indian students in US. Comparison is off. USA is looked up for higher standards and this incident tarnishes the image at that level.

modus_vivendi;364745 What do you mean by 'don't treat them like animals'? Has the RFID device been implanted in the students like how a microchip is implanted in animals?

Watch a short video of the ankle tag in the same link I provided. When I see students scammed by a university walking around with tags, it does sound more like animals tracking in a farm. No, it doesn't have to be a microchip implanted. An external RFID tag is enough to humiliate foreign students and that's exactly what's happening here.

Shouldn't the sham-university officials also be tagged, so that they can't abscond while the students are being interrogated? There lies the humiliation part.

I just saw in the news on TOI that Telugu Association of North America seems to have taken the lead to fight against US authorities for their actions against the Students. They probably would want to be careful here as it has the potential to create backlash against people of Telugu origin from other sections of Indian community here for bringing disrepute to the broader community.

Many Indians will be rejoicing at this news because there will be less competition from fellow desis and their jobs will be secure.

I have heard it many times.

Indians are part of slave race with no dignity. As long as the slavery brings them food its fine.

When i was a kid a local thug tried to heckle and I got into a fight and retaliated back. But my relatives said I'm a fool and I should have avoided that street or even standing up against him.

Its the same here, the fault will be with the Indians anyway because the administration is run by God Obama.
No one has any facts to back but will jump to conclusion that its fine to treat innocents as criminals, but at the same time they release terrorist suspects from guantanomo bay.

There is a process to deportation. Why should these Indians be on a "fast track"? Are they special? The interview process probably helped determine that a detention was necessary.

KirKS;364748Comparing to celebrities who have huge legal muscle for at least first level of defense is not going to work here. These guys are FoBs who know almost nothing about Unites States. I heard the interview of one of the tagged student on Headlines Today channel and it was not at all pleasant.
The argument is meaningless as I pointed put and asked if the celebrities are animals for being tagged? If not, why should tagging make anyone an animal which is what you claimed.

KirKS;364748 This is neither a knee jerk reaction, nor 'anytime on anything' applies at least to me. I am proud of many things about US and India as well. I usually don't resort to bashing unless the situation warrants, like this one
I see it as a knee jerk reaction and bashing without recognizing the fact that those suspected as illegals and ICE having a good reason after interview wanting to take further action wanting to detain them.

KirKS;364748Police brutality in 'many' countries has nothing to do with radio tagging Indian students in US. Comparison is off. USA is looked up for higher standards and this incident tarnishes the image at that level.

I did not compare the two, I contrasted them, suggested to bash something that needs to be bashed.

It tarnishes image only in minds of those who have a lack of understanding of procedures and a bias that Indians are involved.

KirKS;364748Watch a short video of the ankle tag in the same link I provided. When I see students scammed by a university walking around with tags, it does sound more like animals tracking in a farm. Your bias makes you see them as animals. It is a far superior method facilitated by technology to replace physical detention.

KirKS;364748Shouldn't the sham-university officials also be tagged, so that they can't abscond while the students are being interrogated? There lies the humiliation part.
No, She has millions of assets which can be seized. The govt has filed a suit against her. The students posed a risk of disappearing and there is no reason for law enforcement to take that risk.

Beisdes Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan, Martha Stewart has also donned these ankle monitors.

Now before you suggest that I am comparing Martha with students, the point here is that ankle monitors do not make anyone an animal.

DISREPUTE: how, how will sending a letter of dissent to ICE, about something that people disagree, bring backlash. Let us from now on speak in english, change our last names (like BOBs from babu rao, Lu from venkateswarlu), heck if possible have 2 names for our kids(one american and 1 indian), have some face whitening treatment to blend in and prevent a backlash.

jeez it is so unthinkable to stand up for our country people.
