I have been thinking to start getting into an exercise regimen (it's a long time overdue actually). Lately I have been researching a bit and have become interested in Bikram Yoga. Just wondering if anyone in the forum is a practitioner of it. Would like to hear their experience with it.

I enrolled in Bikram's yoga and did it 6 times a week for 2 months. It was great. Each class is 1.5 hrs long. Its like a Cardio Yoga. You sweat a lot. The instructors are really strict. No unnecessary movements are allowed. No one is allowed to go out of the room once the class starts. If unable to do the yoga postures in the high heat and humidity, we are allowed to remain in "Shavasana" but can't get out of the room. I really loved the way the instructors kept talking non-stop in a rhythm.

1.Have you done any form of yoga before?
2.Have you worked out on 100F ?

I practice hatha yoga regularly, what I did not enjoy personally about bikram was the heat.
I felt dizzy, nauseous in the heat. but the yoga itself is the standard poses which can be done by most people.
the reason I did not go back after my trial class was because it was not the experience I was looking for.

Hi,
I am going for bikram yoga. Its a intense form of exercise,u need lot of determination to keep continuing it.As triveni I mentioned u do get dizzy nauseous but that's only first few classes,if u tak few precautions like hydrating URSELF well, eat food 3 hrs before then it will,be fine.I had done our indian tradional yoga which is also 90 mins sessions but bikram yoga is different.plz read abdt it before u join, get mentally prepared and then join otherwise defn u won't like it.The temp they keep is 104 to 105 with 40% humidity. To be honest with u the only reason I am continuing is coz I took 24 classes straight away and it's non refundable.and am 100% sure I wouldn't hav continued with just trial class. But now I like it as I makes ur body more flexible and u feel more healthy sweating out all toxins.

I felt dizzy too in my very first class. The reason being it was an early morning class and i was in empty stomach. Didn't have any dizziness after i switched to evening 4:30 class. May be coming from Chennai, the heat and humidity were not big issues for me. But prolonged stay in every asana was very tough for me esp the standing ones. Though i enjoyed going to the class, I never perfected the asanas.
