Where would you live when you have moved newly? Stay at home mom and 1 school age kid.

Known desi area. schools are good. lots and lots of Indians. school has 85% Indians. socializing is easy. kids make friends easily.

Diverse neighborhood, predominantly Caucasian . school are great, everyone wants their kids to go to that school. you hardly ever see who stays next door. very minimal socializing. 2-3 kids on the block. rest are retired, working etc. add another dimension to this dilemma, kid gets into the GT program at this school.

the place that we pick will have to be for a longer term. cant pack and move again!

Where you live is your choice. Some like to live among their ilk and some don't.

I wanted to live in a typical American neighbourhood, but for my kid's sake, i moved to a desi/immigrant filled neighbourhood where the competition to get to the GT program is intense. But the kid's friends live in the neighbourhood and that helps a lot. My middle school, they've formed a friend's circle and it is usually kids of similar backgrounds.

A relative of mine raised her 2 kids in a "liberal" white neighbourhood in NC. But now she complains that both her kids are dating "white" girls. :-)

I actually had the experience of living in a Diverse (actually not diverse, as almost all were whites) neighborhood. Very few kids in neighborhood. We stayed there for 7 years, but felt isolated and very sad to see kid with no one to play with in evenings. Ended up playing video games all the time. PLus we had a very poor social life.

Recently decided to move to a more Desi oriented area, with lots of kids. The difference is kid has lots of friends and hardly has time to play video games (alone!). It seemed like we wasted 7 years of his childhood.

So given the choice again, I will always choose a more desi oriented neighborhood. If not that, atleast one that has more kids and tleast some other desis.

This has been my experience for the past year. No kids. Video games. Socially for us also it sucks. But school is great. And yes since it's mainly a Caucasian neighborhood, it is very very quiet
