We all have see the Money, Kiplinger and other magazine publish yearly best places to retire.
I want to create a list of best places to retire in USA for Desi. Most of us on this forum will retire in next 10 years. I would like to start planning for our retirement home.
In addition to the usual criteria (Lower tax, easy access to health care, decent entertainment places, etc.), I want a vibrant Desi community of retired or semi-retired people and a decent choice of Indian restaurants.
Pleas share your thoughts and help me build the list.

1) Dallas suburbs - I heard that they conduct annual Diwali celebrations in the cotton bowl stadium with numerous food/other vendor booths and capped by a massive fireworks display at the end and upwards of 50K people show up. I would like to witness it once. The down side is dry atmosphere and flat landscape with little natural scenery in terms of lakes/national parks etc.
2) North Carolina (Raleigh Durham suburbs) - again lots of desis and desi retail stores. this is my ideal location

Dallas or matter of fact, the entire Texas is a horrible place to live/retire for the reasons that you have mentioned.
I have been in Texas for couple years....Will be leaving for sure in another 2-3 years.
Aim for East or West.
NC is good.

I think Austin is a good place.
Yes it is still infested with too many Trumpites with guns but the whole city is against those people who are driven by hatred.
In 10 years Texas is supposed to become a Purple state, so we will be doing our bit to help progress.
weatherwise it?s in South so none of those long freezes in winter.
Enough tech action that we can dabble on the side if we feel bored watching tv or playing golf.
3-4 hours from nice beaches, next to a nice lake and far enough from Hurricanes. And its located in beautiful hill country, amazing vistas everywhere.
Not expensive yet.
Worst thing is the city leaders, damn hippies, don?t want it to
grow hence they go slow when building roads.
If we can get 500k people move to Texas, it will become a purple state in 2020 :wink

Personally I haven't been to TX. But have heard only bad stories about guns, discrimination, violence. Therefore I am a bit hesitant to move to TX any other Southern State.
I am hoping fellow members will provide me first-hand account to allay or ratify my fears.
I have lived most of life in the USA in NJ. For all its shortcomings, NJ provides a sense of security that I have not experienced anywhere in the country. But clearly it is not an ideal place to retire. Hence my search.
