How long does it take to get US Citizenship processed ?

In 2005 in Texas, the processing time was about 5 months. Some one told me it is usually faster nearing the election time.

4 months in Newark.
There was also a federal mandate to bring down N400 processing to under 4 months in all centers.

It's about 8-10 months in Washington DC area filers, possibly one of the slowest processing offices for USC

I've been waiting with bated breath since my filing in early Sept. 06. Even name check has not been cleared yet. :(

Applied in early Oct 2006. Fingerprinted in mid-Nov 2006 in San Jose, and waiting since then.

Some folks who applied in my timeframe, in other parts of the country have received Feb. interview dates. Even SF is supposedly faster than SJ...

Re. name check, why/how and when will the applicant be informed? I thought the FBI does its check in the background and if everything checks out the applicant would be called for an interview..

If your app gets stuck in FBI name check, then it takes months if not year.
Check ouyt immigrationportal.com and they have Sticky threads on Name check and how to file a counter lawsuit (mandanamus or something similar)

I am wondering what the benefits of Citizenship are. I know you can apply for Green card for your parents. You can travel in lot of countries without VISA. Any others? How long does it take if we apply for our brother or Sister?

If you are a US Citizen:
Green card processing (I-130) for parents takes about 6-8 months

Green card processing (I-130) for brother/sister takes about 15 years
