Hi,
I hope some of you may have bank a/c in UTI (now Axis Bank). I got an email couple of days back to enter my credential to renew my a/c from Axis. E-mail sender has the same axisbank.com domain. I thought it was genuine and about to enter my information (User id, Password, debit card,etc). However, to double-check I saw the address link, and it was different ( http://www.fpugb.org/bbs/data/book/bbsco.htm ) and I carefully avoided entering there. Thank God, I am technical person :)

Then I immediately escalated to branch manager of UTI and got the following respense. I wonder how they got customers email list. Also I get similar email from HDFC, though I do not have a/c but I registered once to open a/c. I am thinking insiders sell the customer information.

If you click the above fraud link, you will feel you are in axisbank site (we can view the same warning message crap).

I guess Phishing is the more popular term for this. In principle never click on any link that your bank or store sends you. Sometimes they cause drive by downloads by clicking them.

Get the latest version of Browsers (IE 7.0), They have Phishing detection capability.

any time you have to go to a financial site you should open a new browser and hand type in the URL to the site and then if possible verify the certificate for the site by looking at the lock icon in the status bar. the certifcate will be from verisign or someone.
