GOI allows transfer of several lacs of rupees very easily.
I have just walked into the bank branch in Noida, filled up a form and next day the money was in UK bank account. I gave the reason as family maintenance. There are several reasons available but for some, one may have to produce additional documentation.
I am OCI too but resident in India.

I have funds in FD NRO at ICICI bank which is maturing in January next year. Can I transfer this amount to US bank. I was told at the branch where I have my FD when I enquired before last year and they said no I can not and only NRE money could be transfered.

I have no clue.
I have an ordinary Resident savings account. Last time, I just rang the relationship manager and he said that a form has to be filled up. He offered to come around and do it at home. I decided to go to the branch. There the BM and the FE expert asked me some questions like how much and why, whose account it is going to and do I know the swift codes etc. They filled up the form and asked me to choose a reason, I chose 'family maintenance'. Signed the form and gave them a cheque. Same day the money was in the account in the UK. This was jan 2015 and the amount was £ 12K. There was no CA cert. or any thing like that, unless the BM gave an undertaking that I know nothing about.
My tax return for AY15-16 has been accepted and refund credited to my account.

The bank employee had given the correct first response. A long distance customer, especially one in a forin land, is usually at a loss when that happens, and gives up. Even though it is entirely possible to help that customer, why do that extra work ....eh ? What is the point in not keeping the deposits with the bank branch ? The customer is happy (or at least reconciled) with the response, and all is vell...no?
Why talk about
forms 15CA and 15CB (the ones in post #7), and so on ?
A good customer gets offered a house-call, and a dormant long distance sleeper gets put off. Seems normal to me.
