Hi All,
Iam filing 1040NR for 2006 tax year. This is my first year as NRA, so i haven't realized i needed to file W-8BEN with my brokerage. So, they have not sent 1042-S which is needed to know info like foreign source/ US source etc. Now my broker TDAmeritrade says they can't issue 1042-S for last year. So, can i go ahead and proceed with 1040NR filing without 1042-S ? (I need to make judgements on which is foreign source income etc. For example, if it is a mutual fund investing in non-US companies, i need to put it in foreign source income). Will IRS accept that ? Any experience on this ? My income is not that much -- below $3000 for not-effectively-connected-income. So, maybe IRS won't mind not having 1042-S ?
On a positive note, i just read in inst-1040NR that due date for it is June 15th. (Not Apr 15 !). So, we do have some time left !!
Thanks,
bhaibhai

Just to clarify, the extended due date is only for people who satisfy certain criteria. check inst-1040NR for details.

Page 3 of the Instructions for 1040NR -The last column has some information on claiming refund. Check if you can qualify. Also, on top of Page 4 of 1040NR has - "Attach Forms 1042-S, SSA-1042S, RRB-1042S, or similar form". May be you can make use of the "similar form" exception with a note explaining your situation.
