Just want to dedicate a thread for US stock market discussions.
This is not for individual stock picks but general discussion about the market, news etc.

US Stock Market: General Discussion
Dow is up 280+ points today. A new exuberance (irrational or not) is in the offing ? What is driving this market despite such negative news all around ?
May be time to subscribe to some market timer newsletters. Any insights about the best market timers out there ? Dont want to be caught napping this time around. :)

1) $ had depreciated a lot. With the depriciation of $, US companies with international presence will automatically show very good results.
2) Today market went bcos of good retail sales report , I guess.
3) I feel there is lot of inflation in US these days. Whenever I buy groceries, gas etc , i feel prices have shot up sharply compared to the past. Take for example stamps. I ame to US when a stamp was 32 cents, i guess. Almost every year so far it raised bby just 1 cent. But this year the price of stamp jumped from 37 cents to 39 cents.
Again with inflation, prices of products go up and companies might show better profit margins.
Just my 2 cents.
cheers,

I agree with the inflation part. Usually, I don't care much about prices.
But I happened to be in Publix (a supermarket) few days back, one long cucumber was priced @ $2:50 each, other veges were outrageous too.
I was shocked, I mean it is just a simple non organic cucumber.
I hear the same from other friends. The prices indeed have gone up substantially.

kroger/publix is only for emergency shopping for us.
I read somewhere that u r from atlana too. So here is my list.
Most of our shopping is in walmart super center,
for good desi vegetables we rely on International Farmers Market,
for top quality fruits we rely on H-MART ( Fortunately there is a new one just at the junction of medlock bridge-abbots bridge rd ),
For bulk quantity buying (including gas) we rely on costco / sams.

Soomdy, we used to use the same stores when I was in the ATL, except H-MART, never heard of that.
But once we came to know of Dekalb Farmer's Market, we stopped visitn Intl Farmers for veggies - they are much cleaner & have an awesome selection of veggies. Thought it might be a bit far from Alpharetta - I used to live in Dunwoody, so that's a few miles less of travel. If you get a chance try it sometime.
Amazingly the Walmart supercenter in Ohio SUCKS for veggies, I don't know why its so much different from the supercenter on Mansell Rd? Meijers more than compensates for Walmart though. But we still miss DFM a lot. :emcry:

Actually, it was for emergency shopping.:) Felt like having a grilled veggie sandwich.. so stopped by.
For the most part, we use organic dairy and produce. So shop @ Harry's Farmers market (Dekalb being too far) but during Summer and Fall, backyard garden is the main source for veggies.
Kroger and Walmart also has decent organic products.
To save the best for the last, recently Trader Joe opened up in the neighborhood, so have another great option now.
Yeap, most of my desi friends use your model which also works pretty good.
Thanks.

US Stock Market: General Discussion
MeraNaseebR2I;33809Following Apple's trail with iPhone ....
AAPL is a dear stock now - $135 and change today
I was deconstructing the iPhone to follow AAPL's trail to seek stock fortune in the chips. That is - the "beef" inside the iPhone....
Here is a list of chips the iPhone uses
Samsung chips for Flash memory - 4GB and 8GB
Marvel (MRVL) chips for WiFi - currently at 18.70
Broadcom (BRCM) supplies the controller chip - currently at 32.4
Texas Instruments (TXN) power management stuff, currently at 38.7
Skyworks (SWKS) front end amplifier - 8.33
Micron (MU), iPhone camera - 13.74
Which one of these stock OR all of them would you have in your portfolio....
if you play aapl options right, there is still money to be made, apple reports
earnings july 25, could be a blowout.:emwink:

MNR2I,
your ideas on getting the iphone suppliers stocks are good, what if
apple changed the supply in the middle of the course, that will cost
a lot of pain.
BTW, what do you think of blackberry RIMM stock ? here is another
one that makes me money on options so far, it is splitting next month
