Hi,
I'm looking for input from everyone who has been\will be in a similar situation.
I'm a full time working mom(of a toddler, who's USC already) in IT field and we plan to R2I in late '07. After R2I, I want to work only part time\teaching job (still deciding) so I can spend more time with my kid. We're at the stage where we're free to file USC at any time and thinking whether to take USC or not. Two main questions that I've:
1. I'm confused about whether it would put any restrictions on me as USC (vs INC) with regard to getting a job part time as # of compnies\instituations that offer part time jobs are not too many(Is that right assumption?). (I think I should have no problem finding full time job in India with 10yrs+ of experience).
2. My hubby wants to keep option open to start something of his own or continue job in IT field and we're also thinking towards keeping USC for one spouse and INC for one of us. Is it good to do that or too problematic with family members having different nationality? if so, given our situation, which person taking taking USC seems more appropriate?
Thanks a lot for all your input!

This might help. Most of the info is still relevant. With the new OCI, staying and working in India with US passort has made it easy.

There was a thread on a similar subject (USC and INC combo). I couldn't locate it but you can try your luck searching/ looking up here: http://groups.msn.com/R2IClub/general.msnw
If you do find it, post the link on this board.

Thanks VS007 and Ace Novice. That thread was very helpful.
Though my real concern that other thread does not seem to cover is that if there any issue regarding getting part time\teaching job if you're not INC and on OCI?
(I'm trying to get away from that high stress\time consuming job of IT field after R2I :-))

OCI is new and has not been tested in courts. Remember OCI gives parity with NRIs.
If you want to work for the Govt. in teching profession, and want to play it safe, keeping INC may be a smart idea.

Before R2I - Keep Indian Citizenship or take US Citizenship ?
hi all,
I'm in a big dilemma whether to r2i now or wait for another 3 yrs, get citizenship and then r2i. I never thought about citizenship at all in the past. But now when r2i is coming close I'm suddenly caught with the fear that if I don't get citizenship (if not for me, at least for my daughter and wife), I will repent later. I'm thinking that it will be a good backup for us in the future, would give us more secured feeling too and also help my daughter for her future studies if she wants to study in USA.
My question is mostly to the guys who r2ied. Did you guys worry a lot about not getting the citizenship and then once you went back to India and few years passed, you never regretted and all those worries and concerns seemed to be exaggerated? In other words, now when you look back at how you much you were worried about having citizenship as a backup for you and kids, do you laugh at it and think it was totally unfounded? Or do you still think it's good to seriously consider and get citizenship before r2ing?
I don't have good savings and I'm in my close to 40. I think I may not get good job opportunities as I would get now if I r2i after 3 years because of being older and the kind of boom that's currently going on may not be there at that time.
I know guys I have to decide for myself, but you all know how difficult it is when you are close to r2i. So please provide your views and suggestions.

A lot depends on how old are you kids ?
IMO its best to r2i before the kids are 5 old. So they can start 1st grade in India.
W.r.t to citizenhip, ofcourse its better to have it in my opinion. But this decision cannot be made in isolation. Consider your career, kids etc in that decision.

my husband and I returned to India recently (Dec 2006). When we were considering to return - "getting US citizenship" before we return topped the list of "essential pre-conditions". We felt strongly that we should return only upon getting US citizenship . The reason being - we did NOT want our kids to ever stand in any visa queue and go thru some of the visa related extreme hardships that we had put ourselves thru. This was just our sentiment. Thats all. It depends on what matters the most to you.

r2iwhen;7667My question is mostly to the guys who r2ied.[/quote]
This question would be better if asked about a decade from now, because that is when the successfully r2i'd folks could be entertaining thoughts of R2A.
I haven't R2I'd yet and can't answer for others, I am waiting till at least of one of us, my wife or I, get USC before pulling the plug. Kids are natural born USCs...
My long term plans for the kids and my family has influenced my decision (hmm, I should probably block the domain name - R2AClub.com :emteeth:)

While most take up USC to have the flexibility to R2A, children's education in US etc... it will be interesting to find out if anyone had any difficulties living in India as USC
For example
Simple things like gas connection that may need ration card
School fees for USC children
How college admissions are handled for USC kids ?
Any issues in taking up a teaching job ( Do govt colleges,
IIT,IISC,Anna University etc allow USC for job of professsor etc)
Experiences from R2I'd USC's will be helpful.
