It would be really interesting if some of you can give reasons for R2I.
And what do you expect when you come back and how usefull can you be when you come back here?
Dilemma / reasons : Why R2I?
Dilemma / reasons : Why R2I?
I don't know about R2i from U.S., but from places like carribean where racism plays some role, and the uncertainties one faces, dealing in day to day living, especially in business field like myself, R2i is like heaven on earth, provided that one has secured one's future financially.
Prior to R2i, one should have complete knowledge of the situation in india, have the feel from inside to R2i even after knowing about the pollution and many other problems NRI's face.
One should remember though that We NRi's talk about all the problems India has, try to recollect the past and you will see that we had these problems in india even then, but then we were living there, and never noticed these problems, and were quite happy with life then.
I'm not saying,we shouldn't complain about the negative things in india, but for me it's the feeling of completeness, freedom, having relatives around(provided u don't let them interfere in your life), small children enjoy R2i i.e. under 10, cause they will quickly get adjusted, and one more reason, atleast for me is that if anything goes wrong in the country, like a riot or anything small even, you as a foreigner up here can feel the pressure, more than the locals. In india that is not the case, No matter what happens, that sense of belonging is there with you.
These are my views, based on my situation, maybe valid only for myself.
I am a FAN of this site, and we are planning to R2i in March 2007, and this site and the views/knowledge i have gained from here has given me a lot of courage and satisfaction in my decision making. I am planning R2i from three years, but kept the thought of R2i to myself, thinking that people will call me crazy if i discuss, i discussed it long time ago with close realtives including parents/in-laws and they made me feel that i was crazy.
But now after reading views from so many Returned indian, i am very confident, and nobody cannot make me feel crazy again..
I will write my thought on how useful one can be after R2i in my next post.
Regards to all who have contributed to this forum.

Dilemma / reasons : Why R2I?
Here are my reasons for R2I:
1) See my parents more often. Even though my elder bro is there and lives with them but I want to spend time with my folks and be there when they're sick or it's their time to leave their bodies.
2) Do social work, could be with environment, poverty, spiritual aware ness..sky is the limit. I can do it here in the US too but I feel things are really bad in India and will worsen especially in terms of spiritual awareness as it get more westernized. The masses are just starting to get the taste of money, it'll be long b4 they understand what reality is.
3) And of course for kids if we have in future.
I plan to do this while I'm young and have more energy rather than when I'm old. It will be too late to wake up then.

Dilemma / reasons : Why R2I?
My reason:
It took about 18 years for me to reach my goal from a rural background.
The experience I have earned and the struggles I had to go through are invaluable.
If I can share this with the younger generation in rural areas back home and inspire/challenge them to achieve it for themselves with guidance, I would feel my life destiny is reached.

Dilemma / reasons : Why R2I?
"Choti choti baaton ki hain yaadein badi, bhoole nahin beeti hui ek choti ghari'.
(rough translation - smaller things have everlasting memories)
Smaller things lost in hunting (for bigger things). Live close to memories that would matter as we accumulate years to our physical being.
That's it.

Dilemma / reasons : Why R2I?
Hi folks,
my reasons are similar to a lot of you, I guess the basic reasons remain the same:
- To live close to parents and siblings so that I am there in time of need or special occassions
- Sense of belongingness
- social and professional growth, someone mentioned that racism only exists in countries like carribean. You may have been very lucky that you did not face it. I have experienced it first hand in Canada and have had friends who experienced it in U.S. It may not be very obvious but it does exist. Therefore better professional growth in india in my opinion where jobs come to us (as indians) based on our skills and qualifications and not the colour of our skin.

Dilemma / reasons : Why R2I?
I questioned myself, why am I still in US? Then it was easy. I came to US to make some money and see the other part of the world. Now, they are done, I am going back home. It is as simple as that. I never wanted to settle down permanently in another country. I don't need reasons to go back home. :)

That depends on how one defines home.
Dilemma / reasons : Why R2I?
Home is where the heart is.
