Extended Warrenty on Honda Accord

Post by prasoum »

Hi,
I know that most of us desi owned japanese car (Honda and Toyota) :)
So here is my question for gurus:
Is it good to buy extended factory warrenty offered by Honda. It is not third party warranty but is given by Honda through dealers under the name Honda Care...Any suggestion/Experience..Please help as I have to decide about it....

Again thanks..

If it is a Honda I would not buy any extended warranty. I own a Honda Accord and I regret spending $800 for an extended warranty that I never had a chance to use (now it is expired).

Honda's are solid cars and they will easily run upto $100K and above without issues.

Extended warranty on Hondas and Toyotas are a good way for these companies to make money without any service. If they are offered within 100k miles or 5 years, then dont go for it. In my opinion, these cars start to have minor troubles around 150k, nothing major.

Hi HBHCHM and karmayogi...
I talked to the dealers and they say that if anything goes wrong you would have bigger bill then $800 you want to save....I agree with you but have no experience with either Honda or with extended warrenty...I have Accord06...

Honda/Toyotas are solid, I made the mistake too on it, but had the opputuniyy to cancel it after one year, instead of getting into this, open a separate bank account for Auto maintanence $25 to $40 a month will go a long way(will take care of your emergency expences, start off with the $800)...infact my accord is close to 120,000 miles and I have just done basic maintanence, I dont do any factroy recomended ones...after the 45,000 miles I did the 90,000 miles factory recomended service...so far so good...

Good Luck and enjoy the car...

I took extended on 2002 and used it to replace the 6 CD in Dash changer which otherwise would have coseted me about 400$. Still short of what I paid $850.....:emwink: . Hey not the recovery mentality.

Today's machines have more and more computer in them and that software could go wrong anytime....(Don't we all IT people know here !!!!).
It's just a piece of mind that shows up as additional $10-15 on a five year loan. You may never have to use this but just as a piece of mind since the purchase is too big.
I never buy extended warranty on anything except very bulky items or very costly items.
Gurus says its a waste of money.....Also I wish that one may never have to use this warranty...but just in case.

As everyone said above for Honda and toyota the extended warrent is just waisting money . I had a warrent on my Toyota and never had to use it .

OP: If you are going to buy the extended warrenty for honda then go directly to the Honda care website they have some promotions/discounts and dont buy from the dealer , it is the same extended warrent.

What kind of warranty is this Bumper to Bumper? will it cover mechanical wear and tear like a/c , brakes, timing belt etc ( doubtful!).
Remember they are trying to make money, so typically they will offer you a warranty that will expire after specific mileage (130k), ie after this mileage the items they cover will require maintanence.
Also extended warranty are not bad because if you sell car, the warranty transfers with it and thus car is easier to sell. I would negotiate a higher termination mileage for the same cost (cmon w're desis)

The extended warranty sold by the dealer provides almost 25-50% commission to the dealer. So, that is why the salesperson always says that it is a good investment (for him/her though).

If you indeed want to go for it, buy it from Honda directly (as someone else suggested). It may be a bit more expensive, but you will get what you pay for...company backed warranty.
