A lot of people on this board work for patni. Work culture is horrible. They make you wash the dishes, and do the laundry.

what is the standard notice period for indian consulting companies? Is it 2 weeks like US?

Vacation time? Does it accumulate from the day 1. I have talked to couple of companies and they were telling me vacation time starts only after 1 year completion....

Is this the standard practise?

Thanks

Varies from company to company. Avoid patni if you can. less pay more work. And their biggest client is GE who are masters at work extraction.

Patni is not a company for R2I folks.

Typically for PM it is 2 Months

For SPM/Program manager it is 3 months.

This is for indian comp like infy tech mahindra etc. This is one way they use to fight attrition.

Two Desis have filed a lawsuit against Patni in U.S. Federal Courts for not paying the salaries that they were promised in their employment contract. You can Google for more information. BusinessWeek had an article recently about this.

HR guy in patni telling me that it is 3 months notice period for PM and above. He is saying it is standard in IBM, TCS etc.,

Are there any pitfalls in accepting this much. He was saying it is not a big deal and other companies do a buyout ( in case I decide to change the job) for a month or 2 and buyout is based on "Base" pay...

Thanks

dont see any prob with that....notice periods are organsation wide standard....so they normally wont negotiate on that .....it depends on your level in the organisation.....remember it works both ways......

people wait for notice period normally that's my experience....you can also trade your unused leaves to off set notice period.....many times one can get released early on a project situation....

Not all companies will wait for 3 months. Given a choice they will hire someone who will join earlier. The fear amongst companies recruiting is that you will get a better offer in the 3 month notice period. Sure a buy out is possible but then that reduces bargaining power

A 3 month notice period makes it difficult for a job switch IMO. Anyways if patni is the only offer you have I suggest you take it and then explore market conditions here :)
