Folks,
I know it is personal decision to R2I and everyone has his own reasons to R2I , I wanted to gather any disappointments you had if you R2Ied due to following reasons:
- Kids upbringing: Did you get what you always wanted; Closeness to "Indian culture" (especially if kids are in international schools)?
- Better career: Did you find career growth, future growth in India more promising?
- General living conditions: Did you find surprises in day to today living, that you never wanted?
thanks

Unfortunately, you will not be seeing many responses to this. I had a similar question earlier. It is either because few people visit this site after r2i or if they r2aed because they are not happy with r2i they would not want to express it here.

Im not surprised. Whenever I am in India, I hardly get a chance to surf the web. There's always something to do or visitors at your place... here I check my mails 20 times a day, in India, I check it once in 2 days. :)

What kinda broadband connection do you have? The bsnl dsl works fine.
http://www.bsnl.co.in/service/dataone_tariff.htm You can opt for a plan with a higher bandwidth if your connection is slower than dialup.

Realentity,
I do not remember the name of the provider. I will find out today.
BSNL was our first choice. However, the wait time for it is approximately 3-4 months, and from what we were given to understand, going up !!! So, we are stuck with this other provider we have currently.

You just need to bribe the guy doing the connections and you shall have the connection the same day. Its dirt cheap too. Rs 250 per month for the DSL starter plan. Thats $6 per month for DSL.

r2i_100;16751Folks,

As per your message, I'm not eligible to respond since I didn't have a failed r2i. I'm still LIA. Since you have not received many responses, I think I can respond. :)
Some of my friends went thru forced-r2i (visa issues, marriage issues i.e. got GC while single, etc.) and some of them didn't like India when they landed. They cursed everything there and vowed to return to US the first opportunity they get. Fast forward 5 years, NO ONE wants to come to US, except for short business trips for couple of weeks. They are well settled there and don't want to go thru the hassle of moving again with family. Besides, they have well paying jobs there and proximity to parents/relatives, from what they tell me.
There was one case (again forced-r2i) where the entire family moved back to US . But I consider that as an exception as the person ended up in a not-so-good company, got frustrated and moved back.
To your three questions:
Kids upbringing: Absolutely, they are very much indianized as you would expect. Talk/walk/etc. in Indian way but one thing to keep in mind is that dating(a.k.a. western?) culture has really picked up even in lower grades like 5th/6th. I learnt this from my friend's wife who is a teacher.
Better career: I think so, if you are referring to career growth. All of my friends have reached the second level management and are on the trajectory to climb further up. One of them just got an offer of director of engg. from an MNC. However, you have to adjust to Indian working culture, whatever that means, in offices.
General living conditions: Home and office are nice and rest is just a mess in most Indian cities. There are countless posts on this forum on the pathetic infrastructure that's crumbling by the day so no point going into all that. I assume you know that all too well.
Hope that helps!
