I love temple architecture especially the dravidian style tall/towering and colorful gopurams.

I recently took this picture of the gopuram at the Ashtalaksmi temple, located on the beach side at Besant Nagar in Chennai.

The structures, idols, temple appeared to be fairly newer compared to those that are centuries old.

The reason I'm posting this is to comment on a couple of things I found interesting.

The temple and gopura is tiered. The 8 Lakshmi idols are placed in a gopura that is 3 (?) storyed. This is the only "mutli-tiered" temple that I've visited.

What seems irregular about this structure at second glance is that as one climbs to view the idol on the top tier, he or she would be "climbing" or "walking" on top of the idol in the tier below.

I haven't confirmed if the idols and stairs are placed such that one would never be treading on the idol below, however, I'm willing to bet that the temple architects would have given this due consideration.

I may be getting a little carried over by this thread, but this thread made me to look into his snaps one more time. He has removed some of the best snaps because some of his family members may have been present in the pics.here is one good pic.Promise won't bother you all again.
