Folks,
I have researched this forum and the previous one and have found no answer to this situation, so please be assured I have done due diligence.
My situation is we are planning on R2I'ing on USC + OCI. However, both of us have a previous PAN in India while we were ICs. We have not been filing taxes for the last 8 years in India because we had no taxable income in India.
Prior to that, we did file under our respective PANS.
My question is, do we "activate" the same PANs somehow OR do we ask for the closure of the old PANs and reuest new ones as foreign citizens?
Any help from the gurus on how to go about doing this stuff is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

PAN has nothing to do with citizenship. You should be able to use your old PAN numbers and file your returns once you are back in India.

go to http://www.incometaxindia.gov.in/ look up the PAN section.
One can verify that the PAN is active.
I did not realise that I had a PAN no.earlier.
When I applied they gave me the old PAN no.
You can also ask for a PAN Card, these were not issued earlier. It is a very useful ans sometimes essential to have.

Question 12 of the PAN application form clearly asks if you are a citizen of India or foreigner. OCI is foreigner. So that status has now changed. ...
And that was the meat of my question.....
Thanks again in advance for any replies.
