Rs/$ Effect ? The R2I numbers going down
The thread of the members planning to R2I in 2007 doesn't seem to have a new post since last month.
Is it the seasonal effect or the Rupee appreciation effect ?

I am planning to R2I and responses haven't been good in the Indian job market. I have 14 years of experience, Senior PM in the US, worked in the US for 10 years, USC, OCI and all the goodies, still other than a few phone calls, the job market hasn't been as good as expected. I think others may be going through the same. Now I am thinking about PM options in the US and continuing here. When I first started the R2I process 5 months back, I got pretty good response from companies like Accenture et all. I think R2I may not be an option to "hide" from US recession anymore. The ripple effect will be there in India too.

I think "Members planning to R2I in 2007" thread is a bad place to look for this indicator. How many months are left in 2007? Only Nov and Dec. If whoever is planning to R2I in 2007 hasn't made up his mind by now, he'll definitely not R2I in 2007.
Perhaps, start a "Members planning to R2I in 2008" and look at the response. That compared against 2007 list might be a better indicator of slowing down or not.

I am in the same boat as you - it seems as if hiring experienced people is on a hold in India. I am now looking for companies that will hire me here and transfer me to India - that seems to be the best bet.
I beleive the chances within US companies is best (for moving to India) because they place higher value on having their people in India than the value a indian company places on US experience.
About the impact of the dollar or that of the US recession on Indian software companies, my understanding is that many software companies have been diversifying away from US companies to Japanese, European and even domestic clients for a few years now. To the extent that a company has been successful in doing this - they will be immune to the downtrend here.

I am still on 2007 boat if my home sells. BTW, I made up my mind 1 year ago but could not materialize.

I have read that hiring has slowed down considerably, more due to the rupee appreciation than any upcoming US recession. despite diversification, companies still get 70% of revenue from US clients.

Who, How and Why is a US recession being predicted ?
I guess I dont understand why the US is going into a recession ? Can any
one explain with some numbers versus speculation based on "feelings" and/or news from CNN based on subprime scandal ?
